The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), a leading international humanitarian organization, is recruiting a qualified candidate for the position of Accountability Assistant in Maiduguri, Nigeria.

DRC works globally to support refugees and internally displaced persons by providing emergency assistance, advocating for their rights, and promoting sustainable solutions for a dignified life.

Position Title: Accountability Assistant
Duty Station: Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria
Employment Type: National Contract (6 months, renewable)
Reporting Line: MEAL Manager

Role Purpose

The Accountability Assistant will support the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) team to ensure high standards of accountability and transparency across DRC programmes. The role focuses on community feedback mechanisms (CFM), information sharing, stakeholder engagement, and strengthening accountability systems.

Key Responsibilities

1. Information Sharing & Community Feedback Mechanism (CFM)

  • Manage toll-free feedback lines in line with DRC standards.
  • Support development and dissemination of awareness materials (IEC).
  • Ensure timely documentation and entry of beneficiary feedback into the CFM database.
  • Refer sensitive and protection-related cases appropriately.
  • Prepare and present monthly CFM reports to support learning and decision-making.

2. MEAL System Support

  • Monitor accountability materials and support budget tracking.
  • Assist in updating accountability frameworks and SOPs.
  • Support CHS self-assessment processes and improvement planning.
  • Contribute to lessons learned and programme improvement initiatives.

3. Capacity Building & Field Support

  • Facilitate accountability and CFM training sessions for staff and partners.
  • Support field visits and community engagement activities.
  • Promote inclusive participation and safe feedback collection across diverse groups.

4. Additional Duties

  • Provide general support to the MEAL team as required.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the MEAL Team Leader or Accountability Specialist.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in MEAL, AAP, or humanitarian programme monitoring.
  • Strong knowledge of accountability frameworks and community feedback mechanisms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with INGOs in emergency or humanitarian contexts.
  • Strong understanding of safe and inclusive community engagement practices.

Working Conditions

  • Based in Maiduguri with frequent travel to field locations.
  • May require extended hours during emergencies or critical project phases.
