call for submission of workshop proposals and sessions

The African Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF) invites all stakeholders passionate about shaping Africa’s evolving digital landscape to organize interactive and insightful sessions under the following subthemes: Cybersecurity and Cybercrime, Emerging Technologies and AI, Data Governance, Digital Rights and Human Rights, Universal Access and Meaningful Connectivity, Sustainability & Environment, Technical & Operational, and Media & Local Content. We are seeking innovative proposals for workshops, lightning talks, open forums, town halls, launches, award ceremonies, and pre-event activities.

Participating in AfIGF 2024 offers a unique platform to share your knowledge, expertise, and experiences with a wide array of stakeholders, including government representatives, policymakers, civil society groups, industry leaders, and technical experts. By organizing a session, you can actively influence the development of digital policies and strategies in Africa, foster collaboration among diverse groups, and help shape the future of the internet on the continent.

This year’s thematic areas
Cybersecurity and Cybercrime: Explore the latest trends, best practices, and legal frameworks to combat cyber threats and enhance online safety.
Emerging Technologies and AI: Delve into the ethical, legal, and societal implications of AI, blockchain, IoT, and other emerging technologies shaping Africa’s digital landscape.
Data Governance: Discuss the challenges of data privacy, protection, localization, and democratization, and how to foster trust in the digital ecosystem.
Digital Rights and Human Rights: Analyze internet policies impacting freedom of expression, digital identity, and privacy, while exploring ways to ensure a human-rights-centric digital environment.
Universal Access and Meaningful Connectivity: Address the barriers to affordable and reliable internet access across Africa, focusing on gender inclusion, infrastructure, and digital literacy.
Sustainability & Environment: Examine the intersection of technology and sustainability, covering topics such as e-waste management, sustainable development, and supply chain accountability.
Technical & Operational: Discuss essential internet infrastructure topics, including Domain Name Systems (DNS), Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), net neutrality, and community networks.
Media & Local Content: Address content moderation, multilingualism, misinformation, and the role of local content in shaping digital Africa.
Session Organizers Note:
For each session, the majority of speakers should be onsite to promote active participation and effective discussions with both virtual and in-person attendees. While virtual speakers are welcome, onsite participation is encouraged for better engagement.

Important Dates:
Call for session proposals opens: 25th September 2024
Call for session proposals closes: 13th October 2024
Acceptance notifications: 15th October 2024
AfIGF 2024 Event Dates: 20th – 22nd November 2024
Submission Process:
We encourage stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and sectors to contribute their expertise to AfIGF 2024. Together, we can shape the future of digital governance in Africa, fostering an inclusive, secure, and innovative digital environment for all. The deadline for session proposal submissions is 13th October 2024. Late submissions will not be accepted.
