NRC has operated in Nigeria since 2015, providing humanitarian assistance and durable solutions to conflict-affected and displaced populations.
Its work in Nigeria covers areas including Education, Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance ICLA, Shelter, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene WASH, and Protection from Violence.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Head of Programme will provide strategic leadership and oversight for NRC’s country programme portfolio in Nigeria.
The role is responsible for ensuring that programmes are effectively designed, implemented, monitored and aligned with NRC’s strategy, mission and donor requirements.
The position will also drive programme quality, impact, accountability and growth while promoting efficient use of resources and compliance with organisational policies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the development of the Country Office fundraising strategy, including donor mapping and alignment with NRC’s programme and advocacy priorities.
Lead the development and implementation of NRC’s partnership strategy in Nigeria.
Strengthen collaboration with national and international partners and promote principled and equitable partnerships.
Contribute to the development and implementation of the country strategy.
Ensure quality and coherence of core competency programme inputs across relevant processes and documents.
Strengthen networks, cooperation and implementing partnerships.
Ensure sound and timely grants management through NRC’s Project Cycle Management PCM framework and donor requirements.
Promote consistency and synergy between programme and support units.
Act as Country Director when delegated.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Programme Management, Business, Social Sciences or a relevant field.
Advanced academic qualification is an advantage.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior management position within a humanitarian or recovery context, with responsibility for programme and/or project management.
Experience with NRC Core Competency programming is an advantage.
Experience coordinating or leading consortia or partnership implementation.
Experience with MEAL systems, approaches and accountability mechanisms.
Experience working in complex and volatile contexts.
Documented results related to the responsibilities of the position.
Strong understanding of leadership skills and profile.
Fluency in written and spoken English with excellent drafting skills.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE
Knowledge of the Central and West Africa context and crises.
Experience with start-up and scale-up projects, emergencies and early recovery.
Experience mainstreaming evidence-based approaches to programme quality throughout the project cycle.
Experience working in integrated programmes.
Knowledge of donor landscapes, priorities and requirements.
Strong team-building, cross-cultural communication and conflict-resolution skills.
Experience designing and delivering team capacity strengthening, including remote coaching, mentoring and training.
