FIELD ENUMERATORS NEEDED – SOUTHWESTERN NIGERIA

Are you smart, curious, digitally confident and connected to your local community?

A research team is recruiting ONE FIELD ENUMERATOR in each of five locations in Southwestern Nigeria for an ongoing research project documenting agricultural knowledge, skills, stories and practices within local agrifood communities.

STUDY LOCATIONS

  1. Ondo Town, Ondo State
  2. Iwo Town, Osun State
  3. Oyo Town, Oyo State
  4. Epe, Lagos State
  5. Ilugun, Odeda LGA, Ogun State

WHO ARE THEY LOOKING FOR?

Applicants should:

Live in, come from, or have strong familiarity with the study location

Communicate confidently in English and Yoruba, including the local dialect of the selected location

Be comfortable interacting with farmers, processors, traders and other community members

Have excellent listening and observation skills

Be able to conduct respectful interviews and ask useful follow-up questions

Be comfortable using an Android smartphone and digital data-collection tools

Be able to take clear photographs and audio recordings when authorised

Be reliable, organised and attentive to detail

Respect confidentiality, informed consent and local knowledge

Be willing to work in farms, processing locations, markets and other rural community settings

EXPERIENCE THAT WILL BE AN ADVANTAGE

Experience in any combination of the following will be useful:

Agriculture and Agricultural Extension

History and Indigenous Knowledge Studies

Demography

Qualitative Data Collection

Digital Data Collection

Research Ethics

Community Development

NGO Fieldwork

Rural Development

Cassava Production, Processing and Marketing

WHAT MATTERS MOST

The most important qualities are the ability to listen, observe, communicate in the local dialect, document accurately and work respectfully with people.

WHAT WILL THEY DO?

Selected enumerators will receive training before deployment and will support the research team to:

Conduct interviews

Document agricultural practices and local knowledge

Observe farming and processing activities

Record narratives and local terminology

Document knowledge-transfer and apprenticeship practices

Identify participants with particularly rich or specialised knowledge for possible follow-up interviews

Collect and submit research data using digital platforms

The research team will coordinate the fieldwork remotely, with periodic researcher visits and follow-up Key Informant Interviews conducted with selected participants.

IMPORTANT

Only ONE strong enumerator will be recruited per study location.

This is not simply a form-filling role. The selected candidates are expected to become trusted local research links between their communities and the research team.
