ROLE PURPOSE

Save the Children International is seeking a Driver to safely and efficiently transport staff, visitors, goods and documents to their destinations in line with organisational policies and procedures.

The Driver may also support emergency response teams during humanitarian crises and undertake field travel when required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Safely transport staff, visitors, goods and documents to designated destinations.
2. Maintain assigned vehicles in clean, safe and sound mechanical condition.
3. Conduct routine checks on oil, water, fan belts, brake fluid and other vehicle components before trips.
4. Maintain accurate mileage and vehicle log sheets and submit monthly reports.
5. Ensure vehicle insurance and road licences remain valid and are renewed on time.
6. Ensure vehicle tools and safety equipment, including spare tyres, jack, wheel spanner, first aid kit and fire extinguisher, are available and in good condition.
7. Report vehicle damage and mechanical defects promptly to the supervisor.
8. Follow travel instructions, traffic laws, security procedures and Save the Children policies.
9. Provide professional support to staff and visitors and assist with troubleshooting during daily operations.
10. Maintain professional conduct that reflects positively on Save the Children and its humanitarian mission.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should have:

1. Minimum Diploma or equivalent qualification.
2. At least 3 years of relevant driving experience, preferably with an international NGO.
3. A valid driving licence.
4. Classes B, C and D driving licences held for at least 3 years.
5. Ability to read and write in English.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
7. Excellent knowledge of English and Hausa.
8. Good knowledge of routes, duty stations and project areas within the NGO and diplomatic community.
9. Ability and willingness to travel to field locations.
10. Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email and internet browsing.
11. Flexibility and ability to work effectively under difficult and challenging conditions.
12. Commitment to Save the Children’s Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct.

The role involves regular contact with children and/or young people and is subject to rigorous safeguarding and background checks.
