Malaria Consortium is recruiting research personnel for its 2026 insecticide-treated net (ITN) mass distribution campaign evaluation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The organisation, in collaboration with the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) and state malaria elimination programmes, will conduct household surveys to assess ITN coverage, ownership, utilisation, physical condition, and other malaria prevention indicators before and after the 2026 campaign.

About the Assignment

The successful candidates will support three rounds of household surveys:

  • F1: Baseline household survey before the ITN campaign.
  • F2: Immediate verification survey after ITN distribution.
  • F3: One-month post-campaign evaluation survey.

Field Data Collectors will conduct household enumeration, administer interviews, collect ITN-related information, and submit electronic data using mobile devices and approved data collection platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Field Data Collectors will:

  • Enumerate households in selected settlements during the F1 and F3 surveys.
  • Conduct interviews with household heads and women aged 15–49 years, where applicable.
  • Obtain written informed consent before interviews.
  • Collect information on household ITN ownership, utilisation, physical condition, and other relevant malaria prevention indicators.
  • Conduct interviews in sampled households according to approved procedures.
  • Participate in back-check interviews to verify data quality.
  • Use mobile devices and electronic data collection systems to accurately record and upload survey information.
  • Keep assigned devices charged, secure, and in good condition.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of respondents’ personal information.
  • Report field challenges to the Team Leader and support their resolution.
  • Upload completed survey data to the SurveyCTO server according to established guidelines.

During F1 and F3, each Field Data Collector is expected to interview approximately four households per day, while the F2 verification survey requires approximately six households per day.

Qualifications & Experience

Applicants for the Field Data Collector position should have:

  • Minimum of BSc or HND in a health-related discipline or Social Sciences.
  • At least 1–2 years of experience conducting household surveys.
  • Experience using electronic data collection systems such as SurveyCTO or ODK.
  • Good knowledge of English.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent proficiency in Hausa and/or Gbagyi, particularly for communities included in the study.
  • Ability to work effectively in field-based survey environments.
  • Willingness to attend mandatory training before fieldwork.

  • 5–7 years of household survey coordination experience.
  • Strong quantitative survey report-writing skills.
  • Knowledge of Hausa and/or Gbagyi.

  • BSc or HND in a health-related discipline or Social Sciences.
  • 3–5 years of household survey experience.
  • Experience with SurveyCTO, ODK, or similar electronic data collection tools.
  • Strong English report-writing skills.
  • Excellent Hausa and/or Gbagyi proficiency.
