World Trade Organization Internship Programmes

The World Trade Organization offers several internship opportunities for postgraduate students. Selection is based on merit, eligibility, academic qualifications, and expertise. These programmes aim to increase diversity within the organization.

There are three main internship programmes available

1 WTO Internship Programme

2 China LDC and Accessions Programme

3 WTO Support Programme for Doctoral Studies

WTO Internship Programme

This programme is open to postgraduate students and recent graduates from WTO member countries and observer nations.

Eligibility

Applicants must be at least 21 years old

Must have completed undergraduate studies

Must be enrolled in a master’s programme with at least one year completed or

Have completed a master’s degree and be pursuing further postgraduate studies or

Have completed a master’s or PhD within the past 2 years

Fields of work include trade law, economics, statistics, trade policy, languages, administration, information technology, communications, and information management

Duration

Up to 6 months

Remuneration

Daily allowance of 60 Swiss francs

Travel costs are not covered and interns must arrange their own health insurance

Application

Applications are submitted through the WTO online platform

Recruitment is ongoing throughout the year

China LDC and Accessions Internship Programme

This programme is for students and young professionals from developing and least developed countries

Eligibility

Applicants must be from developing or least developed countries

Must have completed undergraduate studies

Must have completed at least 1 year of postgraduate studies

Must not be older than 30 years

Duration

Up to 10 months

Remuneration and benefits

Daily allowance of 90 Swiss francs

Travel expenses are covered

Additional 100 Swiss francs per month for health insurance

Interns work in areas such as trade policy, agriculture, dispute settlement, intellectual property, trade and environment, and trade facilitation

Application

Applicants must apply through the WTO platform and also send an email with their CV and motivation letter

General internship applications run from 1 June to 31 August

Accessions programme applications are accepted year round

WTO Support Programme for Doctoral Studies

This programme supports PhD students from developing countries

Eligibility

Applicants must be from developing or least developed countries

Must be in the final stage of their PhD with at least 75 percent completed

Must be studying economics, law, international relations, or related fields

Must be able to work in English, French, or Spanish

Duration

3 to 6 months

Remuneration and benefits

Daily allowance of 60 Swiss francs

Travel expenses are covered

Participants focus on their doctoral research and present their work before completion

Application

Applicants must complete the official application form and submit required documents
