PROGRAMME COORDINATOR AFRICA FISH AND AQUACULTURE WELFARE PROGRAMME

One Health and Development Initiative is recruiting a Programme Coordinator to support the implementation and expansion of its Africa Fish and Aquaculture Welfare Programme across Nigeria.

The role will focus on advancing fish welfare, responsible aquaculture, aquatic animal health, biosecurity, sustainable food systems, farmer capacity strengthening, government engagement, private sector partnerships, digital systems, research and programme monitoring.

The successful candidate will be required to travel regularly within Nigeria, particularly to programme states and aquaculture production areas.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Programme Coordinator will coordinate the day to day implementation of the AFIWEL Programme across priority states.

The successful candidate will work with government institutions, fish farmers, producer organisations, veterinary and fisheries institutions, private sector actors, development partners and other stakeholders to promote healthier, more productive and sustainable aquaculture systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate the implementation and expansion of the AFIWEL Programme across priority states.

Translate fish welfare guidelines and responsible aquaculture frameworks into practical activities at state and farm levels.

Develop and monitor implementation plans, timelines, deliverables and stakeholder commitments.

Coordinate engagement with federal and state government institutions responsible for fisheries, aquaculture, veterinary services and food systems.

Support the institutionalisation of fish welfare and responsible aquaculture practices.

Coordinate training and capacity strengthening for fish farmers, fisheries officers, inspectors, extension personnel and other value chain actors.

Support farms to improve fish welfare, aquatic animal health, biosecurity, water quality, record keeping and responsible production practices.

Support the use of digital tools including One Farm Records, RORE and AgrowSAFE where relevant.

Build partnerships with aquaculture businesses, hatcheries, feed companies, processors, retailers, buyers and other value chain actors.

Develop market based approaches that encourage improved fish welfare and responsible aquaculture.

Support monitoring, research, data collection, learning and impact assessment.

Prepare programme reports, case studies, learning products and other documentation.

Supervise and mentor assigned programme officers, field personnel and other implementation staff.

Support programme budgeting, monitoring and compliance with organisational and donor requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Marine or Aquatic Sciences, Agriculture, One Health, Development Studies or a related field.

A relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage.

At least 7 years of relevant professional experience in aquaculture, fisheries, animal health and welfare, agricultural development, food systems or related programmes.

Experience coordinating programmes involving multiple stakeholders and field level implementation.

Experience engaging government institutions, farmers, producer organisations, private sector actors or development partners.

Experience coordinating training, workshops, field activities or capacity strengthening programmes.

Experience supervising junior staff, field teams or consultants is desirable.

Experience within Nigeria’s fisheries or aquaculture sector is a strong advantage.

Familiarity with One Health, responsible aquaculture, aquatic animal health, fish welfare, digital agriculture or sustainable food systems is desirable.
