Management Sciences for Health MSH is recruiting a Local Capacity Strengthening and Health Workforce Development Officer to support health workforce development, capacity strengthening and local health system resilience in Kano.
The successful candidate will work with the Local Capacity Strengthening and Health Workforce Development Specialist to assess capacity needs, design and deliver training, strengthen systems for health workers and local partners, engage government stakeholders and monitor progress across donor-funded projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct capacity assessments of health systems and the health workforce.
- Identify capacity gaps and use findings to inform training strategies.
- Develop and adapt training modules, curricula and capacity-building plans for different health worker cadres, including community health workers and nurses.
- Plan, coordinate and deliver training programmes, including training of new trainers NTOTs, workshops and mentorship activities.
- Collaborate with Ministries of Health, NGOs, local authorities and international organisations to align activities and strengthen partnerships.
- Provide technical advice on health workforce development, human resources for health HRH, programme implementation and quality improvement.
- Track training activities and maintain relevant databases and records.
- Monitor progress and document lessons learned and programme results.
- Support the development and review of policies, guidelines and sustainable structures for health workforce development.
- Support policy and guideline reviews related to health workforce development.
- Contribute to monitoring and evaluation of capacity-building interventions.
- Perform other duties assigned by the organisation.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Applicants should have one of the following combinations:
- Bachelor’s degree plus 4 to 6 years of relevant experience.
- Master’s degree plus 2 to 4 years of relevant experience.
- Doctorate degree plus 0 to 2 years of relevant experience.
Relevant fields include Public Health, Health Administration, Development Studies or a related discipline.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in capacity building and health workforce development.
- Experience working on donor-funded projects, preferably within an NGO or public-sector environment.
- Knowledge of community health worker CHW programmes.
- Understanding of adult learning principles.
- Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation.
- Knowledge of Human Resources for Health HRH.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities.
- Leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with data collection and analysis.
- Ability to work independently and effectively within diverse teams.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Master Trainer certification, such as iCCM-related certification.
- Experience in specific health programme areas.
- Experience using e-learning or digital health tools.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The position will contribute to strengthening local health systems by improving the capacity of health workers and local partners, supporting government engagement, strengthening training systems and tracking the outcomes of workforce development interventions.
