Global Rights is an international human rights and governance capacity building non governmental organization founded in Washington, D.C. in 1978 under the name International Human Rights Law Group. In 2003, the organization adopted the name Global Rights: Partners for Justice during its 25th anniversary. In December 2014, Global Rights closed its Washington headquarters and moved the center of its operations to Nigeria. From its country office in Abuja, the organization works with local activists across Africa to promote and protect the rights of marginalized populations.

Global Rights is currently seeking a qualified candidate to join its team in Abuja. The position reports to the Program Manager and supports the implementation of key program activities focused on civic space strengthening and women’s rights and gender equity initiatives.

The successful candidate will provide operational and technical support to the programs team to ensure effective coordination and delivery of project activities, including initiatives under the Rape Is a Crime campaign. The role includes supporting the implementation of program work plans, assisting with capacity building and advocacy projects, and providing technical support to partner organizations operating in project states.

The position also involves assisting in the orientation, supervision and coordination of partner NGOs, preparing activity reports and updates for management, and supporting the design and facilitation of trainings for local organizations and communities. The officer will contribute to research, writing and editing of program related publications and provide content for social media and other external communication platforms. In addition, the role supports relationship management with partners, donors and the media, while also assisting in administering and monitoring sub grant programs.

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and at least 2 years of experience working with human rights organizations. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication and report writing skills, sound project management ability, and a good understanding of gender, civic space strengthening, development and human rights issues in Nigeria. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, capable of multitasking, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
