Job Overview
The Stabilization Center Doctor will work under the supervision of the Nutrition Manager and will be responsible for overseeing all clinical activities at the Nana Asma’u Stabilization Center in Yola. The role also includes supporting technical and administrative aspects of the nutrition program.
The successful candidate will lead stabilization center interventions and collaborate closely with IRC nutrition teams, Ministry of Health staff, Nutrition Officers, and Nurses. This role demands a high level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to delivering quality healthcare services.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Management
- Provide clinical leadership in managing children with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) with complications, following national and WHO guidelines.
- Conduct medical assessments, diagnosis, and treatment of patients.
- Prescribe and monitor therapeutic feeding (F-75, F-100) and medications.
- Manage complications such as infections, dehydration, and anemia.
- Ensure adherence to SAM inpatient treatment protocols (10-step approach).
- Maintain accurate patient records and prepare routine reports.
- Monitor supply levels (RUTF, drugs) and prevent stock-outs.
- Enforce infection prevention, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
- Counsel caregivers on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices.
2. Program Development
- Support donor reporting and ensure compliance with financial procedures.
- Contribute to effective budget utilization and program efficiency.
3. Staff Management & Capacity Building
- Supervise and mentor nutrition staff and Ministry of Health workers.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide continuous feedback.
- Organize training sessions and on-the-job capacity-building programs.
- Promote continuous learning and professional development among staff.
4. Coordination & Representation
- Represent IRC in meetings with government agencies and partners.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders, NGOs, and local authorities.
- Participate in coordination meetings and field visits.
- Collaborate with other sectors such as Child Protection, WASH, and Protection programs to ensure integrated service delivery.
Requirements
Education
- Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS/MBChB) from a recognized institution
- Strong public health background (MPH is an added advantage)
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years post-NYSC experience
- Experience in managing Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) cases
- Prior NGO and nutrition program experience preferred
- Experience supervising health or nutrition staff
