Job Summary
The Regenerative Agriculture Advisor (RAA) will work under the supervision of the Program Manager to strengthen farmers’ capacity in climate-smart and regenerative agriculture practices. The role focuses on supporting maize, sorghum, rice, and soybean farmers through extension agents, driving behavioral change, and improving productivity using sustainable methods.
The RAA will also gather market intelligence, monitor project performance, support aggregators, and collaborate with partners to achieve program objectives.
Program Overview
This role supports the Strengthening Farmers’ and SMEs’ Resilience through Climate Smart Grain Production and Accessing Structured Markets (StreFaS) project. The initiative aims to create an inclusive and scalable agricultural system that enhances resilience for smallholder farmers and SMEs.
The project targets up to 30,000 smallholder farmers, enabling them to produce high-quality, low-carbon grains while accessing structured markets. It builds on the success of the previous Developing Inclusive Grain Value Chains in Nigeria (DIGVCN) program.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise Extension Agents (EAs) and Community-Based Advisors (CBAs)
- Conduct training and capacity-building through “train-the-trainer” sessions
- Support behavioral change campaigns and farmer engagement activities
- Assist in developing training materials and learning resources
- Monitor training attendance and program implementation
- Manage learning centers and track farmer participation
- Support partner identification and collaboration efforts
- Facilitate monitoring & evaluation (M&E), surveys, and reporting
- Develop success stories, lessons learned, and project documentation
- Promote TechnoServe’s mission, values, and program goals
Qualifications & Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Food Science, Human Nutrition, or related field
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with smallholder farmers (or 4 years’ relevant experience)
Preferred Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of data tools such as KoBoCollect and CommCare is an advantage
- Experience in training delivery (digital and in-person)
- Strong understanding of maize, rice, soybean, and sorghum value chains
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in English
- Knowledge of Hausa or Fulani (spoken and written) is highly desirable
Additional Information
- Local travel is required
- Experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting is essential
- Ability to engage stakeholders, including community leaders and partners
