Roving Pharmacy Officer – Roving

Job Purpose
The Roving Pharmacy Officer ensures proper pharmacy stock management following good storage and distribution practices. This includes:
- Receiving, storing, and dispensing drugs, consumables, medical materials, and equipment
- Providing treatment advice, precautions, and patient counseling
The role supports project-level pharmacy operations while maintaining quality, safety, and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
Data Collection & Analysis
- Maintain accurate information on stock, consumption, and medicine usage
- Update stock cards, inventories, and other management tools timely
- Ensure proper storage according to good pharmacy practices
- Collaborate with medical staff and Project Manager to assess stock and appropriateness of prescriptions
- Support central pharmacy in updating stock information
Supply Management
- Verify quantity and quality of received supplies
- Report discrepancies to central pharmacy and supervisors
- Prepare supply requests based on:
- Average monthly consumption
- Stock levels
- Supply delays
- Validate supply requests with Project Manager and send transfer requests to central pharmacy
Stock Management
- Maintain organized pharmacy stock by category, alphabetical order, and expiry date
- Apply FEFO (First Expired, First Out) principle
- Monitor minimum stock levels and calculate average monthly consumption
- Conduct monthly physical inventories
- Report missing, damaged, or expired items
- Ensure cleanliness and proper storage of pharmacy and main stock
- Safely quarantine and destroy damaged items in collaboration with central pharmacist
- Implement pharmacovigilance and report any drug quality issues immediately
Treatment Delivery
- Prepare daily medical equipment and medications
- Dispense treatment according to doctor’s prescriptions
- Provide dosage instructions, advice, and precautions to patients
- Prepare weekly pharmacy supplies based on demand
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm or PharmD)
- Current registration with the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN)
Professional Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in pharmacy practice
- NGO or field experience is an advantage
Technical Skills
- Computer literacy: Word, Excel, Internet
- Inventory management
