Première Urgence Internationale (PUI) is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit, and non-religious international humanitarian organization dedicated to supporting populations affected by crises. Through emergency relief and long-term recovery interventions, PUI works to restore dignity and promote self-sufficiency among vulnerable communities impacted by conflict, natural disasters, and economic instability. Since commencing operations in Nigeria in 2016, PUI has expanded its presence from Borno State to other critical regions, including Katsina State in Northwest Nigeria.

Position Overview

Under the direct supervision of the Nutrition Supervisor, the Nutrition Officer will play a key role in implementing and monitoring nutrition interventions, specifically the Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) programs. The role requires a proactive individual capable of delivering high-quality nutrition services in line with national and global standards.

Key Responsibilities

Program Implementation and Monitoring:

  • Lead the day-to-day execution of nutrition activities at project sites, including Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP) using Tom Brown and IYCF initiatives.
  • Ensure all interventions align with the Nigeria Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) guidelines and international nutrition standards.
  • Identify eligible beneficiaries and support the selection of community focal persons such as Community Nutrition Mobilisers and Lead Mothers.
  • Organize community groups and forums for effective dissemination of nutrition education and behaviour change communication (BCC).
  • Conduct community screenings, including MUAC assessments for children under five and pregnant/lactating women.
  • Support defaulter tracing, follow-ups, and referrals across nutrition services such as OTP, stabilization centres, and outreach programs.
  • Facilitate training sessions and mentorship for staff, volunteers, and community stakeholders to strengthen program delivery.

Community Engagement and Coordination:

  • Promote strong collaboration with local leaders, health systems, and other sectors including Food Security, Livelihoods, and Protection.
  • Act as a liaison between PUI and community members to identify needs, address concerns, and ensure community participation.
  • Disseminate nutrition messages and IEC materials effectively to beneficiaries and stakeholders.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Documentation:

  • Collect, compile, and submit accurate weekly reports, including data, field updates, and recommendations.
  • Maintain proper documentation and archiving of monitoring tools and reports.
  • Support the organization’s feedback and complaints mechanism to enhance accountability and service delivery.

Logistics and Administrative Support:

  • Contribute to planning, procurement, and proper utilization of materials and resources for program implementation.
  • Ensure the safety and maintenance of all nutrition-related equipment and supplies.

Requirements

  • Education: Minimum of a Diploma in Nursing or a related medical field.
  • Experience: At least one year of experience in CMAM and IYCF programming, preferably in emergency or humanitarian settings.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of nutrition surveillance, RUTF management, and supplementary feeding programs such as Tom Brown. Proven training and facilitation skills are essential.
  • Languages: Fluency in English and Hausa is required; knowledge of Fulfulde is an added advantage.
  • Technical: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
