ABOUT MALARIA CONSORTIUM

The organization works with communities, governments, health institutions, academic organizations, and development partners to improve health outcomes and strengthen health systems.

The LGA Field Assistant opportunity is under the SARMAAN II Project, which focuses on the Safety and Antimicrobial Resistance of Mass Administration of Azithromycin among Children 1–59 Months in Nigeria.

SARMAAN II is being implemented across 10 Nigerian states and aims to assess the safety and impact of azithromycin mass drug administration on antimicrobial resistance and child mortality.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The LGA Field Assistant will support the planning, implementation, coordination, supervision, monitoring, reporting, reverse logistics, and personnel management of Mass Drug Administration MDA activities at the Local Government Area level.

The successful candidates will work closely with LGA management teams, health facility workers, community drug distributors, traditional leaders, Officers in Charge of health facilities, State Ministry of Health representatives, and other relevant stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Support the planning and implementation of Azithromycin MDA activities across assigned LGAs.
2. Coordinate and monitor MDA activities at health facility, community, and household levels.
3. Support the last-mile distribution of Azithromycin commodities and supplies from State Central Medical Stores to health facilities.
4. Ensure timely delivery and proper documentation of commodities and programme supplies.
5. Support refresher training for Health Facility Workers HFWs and Community Drug Distributors CDDs.
6. Monitor compliance with established Azithromycin administration protocols.
7. Identify and report challenges relating to digital HCM and programme implementation to the Command-and-Control Centre and HCM team.
8. Support Social and Behaviour Change SBC interventions within the assigned LGA.
9. Conduct quality supportive supervision of programme activities.
10. Collect, review, and submit relevant programme documentation and reports.
11. Provide feedback to the Programme Officer and support the M&E Officer with data entry relating to administrative coverage and supply chain management.
12. Support the Finance Officer by providing account details of personnel involved in distribution activities.
13. Maintain effective communication with LGA management teams and community-level stakeholders.
14. Support reverse logistics and other AZM-related activities assigned by the supervisor.
15. Help ensure that programme activities reach eligible children and are implemented according to approved strategies.

REPORTING

The LGA Field Assistant will submit narrative reports to the State Programme Officer, with reports signed off by the State Programme Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

1. Qualification in Science, Social Science, Public Health, or another relevant field.
2. Minimum of 2 years of field experience in a related area.
3. Experience in drug or commodity supply management, monitoring and evaluation, and logistics.
4. Experience conducting quality supportive supervision and using data for programme improvement.
5. Fluency in English and Hausa/Fulani and/or other relevant local languages.
6. Ability to communicate effectively with LGA staff, health facility workers, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
7. Familiarity with Kobo Collect, SurveyCTO, and Microsoft Office applications.
8. Strong coordination, organization, documentation, and reporting skills.
9. Ability to work effectively in field settings and manage multiple programme activities.

ADDITIONAL ADVANTAGE

Previous experience working with Malaria Consortium and/or experience in Azithromycin MDA programmes will be an added advantage.

SAFEGUARDING REQUIREMENT

Selected candidates must complete the required Malaria Consortium Safeguarding Course on Kaya and provide a valid safeguarding certificate at the point of engagement.

Candidates who fail to provide the required certificate may not proceed with the engagement process.
