The Lafiya Programme, supported by the United Kingdom government, is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s health systems and improve health outcomes in states with the most vulnerable populations and weakest health indicators. The programme works through a flexible partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria and selected state governments. It aims to address health equity, strengthen institutional capacity, and support sustainable improvements in primary health care. Its interventions focus on reducing preventable maternal and newborn deaths, as well as strengthening governance and accountability. In addition, the programme works on improving the health workforce and enhancing health information systems. It also strengthens health financing, and improves emergency preparedness and response. The programme operates at the federal level and across five states. These states include Borno, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, and Yobe. The programme is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Local Government Area Facilitator in Kano. The role reports to the State Team Lead and supports programme implementation at the local government level, reflecting the growing opportunities for public health jobs in Kano.
The Local Government Area Facilitator will coordinate programme activities across assigned LGAs, including stakeholder advocacy, capacity transfer, monitoring and supervision of Lafiya supported interventions. The role includes providing technical assistance for the development, review and tracking of Local Government Annual Operational Plans. It also includes supporting coordination committees responsible for primary health care governance, maternal and child health, logistics management and emergency preparedness.
The position also supports updates to the Human Resources for Health registry, and assists with the rollout of Community Based Health Workers. Additionally, it provides mentorship to Ward Development Committees. The facilitator will work closely with local PHC departments to strengthen facility level quality improvement initiatives. Moreover, the facilitator will ensure proper implementation of Direct Facility Financing processes. Experience supporting local government health departments, knowledge of electronic data systems, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are highly desirable. Fluency in the local language is also important. Experience with FCDO funded programmes is an added advantage.
