ABOUT THE ROLE
GIZ is seeking a qualified Communications Specialist to support communications, visibility and content production for the Skills Development for Youth Employment (SKYE II) programme in Nigeria.
SKYE II is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), co-funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and implemented by GIZ.
The programme focuses on improving employment and income opportunities for TVET students, graduates and job seekers, particularly women, vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, across FCT, Edo, Enugu, Lagos, Ogun and Plateau.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and disseminate professional communication products including one-pagers, flyers, briefs, articles, newsletters, press briefings, presentations and factsheets.
- Develop impact stories, videos and content for awareness-raising campaigns.
- Coordinate social media communication, including drafting, editing, scheduling and coordinating technical inputs.
- Support events with communication and visibility activities, including photography, videography and event documentation.
- Track communication performance using metrics such as reach, engagement, media mentions and publication records.
- Plan, design and support procurement of communication and visibility materials in line with GIZ requirements.
- Coordinate external communication service providers and consultants, including briefing, quality control and timely delivery.
- Support the execution of GIZ Nigeria and ECOWAS communication strategies for SKYE and the Sustainable Economic Development Cluster.
- Develop appropriate communication approaches and support other communication-related tasks assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should possess:
- A university degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, Political Science, Development Studies or a comparable discipline.
- A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Candidates should have:
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in strategic communication, visibility and content production.
- Experience working in international cooperation, development programmes or similarly stakeholder-rich environments is desirable.
- Proven experience producing high-quality communication materials, including impact stories, web stories, factsheets, articles, briefs, presentations, social media packages and event communication materials.
- Experience in event communication and visibility, including photography, videography, documentation and media engagement.
- Experience with press conference management and ensuring consent, usage rights and data protection compliance.
- Experience managing external service providers such as graphic designers, photographers and videographers.
- Experience preparing Terms of Reference, coordinating contracting processes, supervising production and ensuring quality and timely delivery.

Skills Development for Youth Employment II is a programme running from 1 November 2023 to 31 October 2028.
