Position Summary
The Africa Programme Officer will support the design and implementation of impactful strategies aimed at accelerating a just and equitable transition away from fossil fuels in Nigeria and Senegal, with additional support across other countries in the region where required.
The role involves managing grantmaking portfolios, engaging with stakeholders including partners and funders, and contributing to the development of broader organisational strategies. The successful candidate will also represent the organisation at key engagements and help strengthen its visibility and influence within the sector.

Energy Transition Fund is a strategic regranting organisation established in 2019 to support global efforts toward a rapid and equitable transition from fossil fuels to sustainable energy systems. The organisation operates with a focused and low public profile while delivering high impact philanthropic interventions worldwide.
Areas of Oversight
The Africa Programme Officer will lead the co design and implementation of philanthropic strategies focused primarily on Nigeria and secondarily on Senegal. The role includes building strong partnerships with grantees allies and experts across sectors to strengthen support for energy and economic transition initiatives.
The position also involves managing cross functional collaboration to deliver grantmaking activities and identifying emerging funding opportunities as well as potential risks within the operating environment.
Key Responsibilities
Grantmaking
The role involves developing and managing a comprehensive grantmaking portfolio across Nigeria and Senegal. The officer will identify and assess potential grantees manage relationships and support them through the grant lifecycle including reporting and compliance processes.
The candidate will also monitor impact track reporting timelines and identify risks while providing appropriate mitigation strategies to ensure successful outcomes.
Issue Expertise
The officer is expected to maintain a strong understanding of energy policy economic and civil society dynamics within Nigeria and the broader region. The role requires contributing expertise to movement building and supporting the development of effective coalitions that drive systemic change.
The candidate will also build and maintain networks with stakeholders and provide strategic insights that inform grantmaking decisions.
Innovation and Strategy
The role requires maintaining a creative and adaptive approach to strategy development while identifying opportunities to align with broader social and political developments. The officer will support efforts to strengthen civil society capacity and enhance conditions for a just transition.
Fundraising and Funder Engagement
The Africa Programme Officer will collaborate with philanthropic partners to strengthen strategic alignment and provide insights on funding opportunities. The role includes supporting fundraising activities contributing to proposal writing and participating in key stakeholder engagements and meetings.
Team Collaboration
The officer will work closely with internal teams across functions to deliver organisational objectives. Responsibilities include managing collaborative projects supporting colleagues and contributing to operational planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must possess an undergraduate degree or equivalent experience along with a minimum of five years professional experience in areas such as climate energy policy economics or finance.
Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical thinking strategic insight and the ability to translate complex information into clear and compelling communication.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and French are required. The role also demands the ability to manage multiple priorities work collaboratively and adapt within a dynamic and evolving organisation.
Experience in philanthropy and knowledge of energy transition issues will be considered an added advantage.

Compensation and Benefits
The position offers a competitive salary ranging from $81553 to $91677 USD annually depending on experience along with a comprehensive benefits package.
Work Environment
The organisation operates a remote first model with team members based globally. Flexible working arrangements are provided although occasional meetings outside standard hours and some regional or international travel may be required. Necessary work equipment will be provided and support for local workspace arrangements may be available.
