Action Against Hunger is an international humanitarian organization working to end hunger and support vulnerable communities affected by crisis. In Nigeria, the organization implements integrated humanitarian and development programmes across the Northeast and Northwest, including Health, Nutrition, WASH, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support, Food Security and Livelihoods, and Social Protection.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The MHPSS Officer will provide high quality psychological assessments, interventions and care to vulnerable populations, including children, adolescents, adults and families. The successful candidates will support MHPSS programming in communities, schools, camps, primary healthcare centres, community based organizations and through home visits.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct psychological assessments and develop appropriate intervention and follow up plans.

Provide individual and group therapeutic sessions for children, adolescents, adults, families and vulnerable persons.

Ensure safe, confidential and appropriate environments for psychological interventions.

Use psychometric scales appropriately and maintain accurate clinical documentation.

Ensure timely referrals to specialized MHPSS, health and protection services.

Provide psychological support to health workers and community helpers.

Conduct trainings for health workers, psychosocial workers and community stakeholders on MHPSS, protection and care practices.

Provide technical support and supervision to trained non-specialists and psychosocial workers.

Contribute to training and supervision on Psychological First Aid and psychosocial and protection issues.

Participate in clinical and technical supervision and contribute monthly case studies.

Support the development of guidelines, protocols, SOPs and intervention methodologies.

Participate in needs assessments, awareness campaigns, psychoeducation, protection risk assessments, service mapping and other project activities.

Monitor MHPSS and protection needs and recommend programme improvements.

Contribute to data collection, monitoring, evaluation and daily, weekly and monthly reporting.

Maintain strict confidentiality of beneficiary information and data.

Collaborate with other ACF departments and represent ACF at field level meetings when requested.

Ensure compliance with ACF gender, age, diversity, safeguarding and other organizational principles.

REQUIREMENTS

Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology and Mental Health Counselling.

Minimum of 2 years professional experience in MHPSS, protection and or care practices.

Experience in psychological assessment, counselling, follow up, case management and referral.

Experience working in humanitarian settings with vulnerable populations, IDPs, refugees or host communities.

Knowledge of MHPSS IASC, WHO and community based guidelines.

Experience training and supervising health workers and community members.

Fluency in Hausa and English.

Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Willingness and ability to travel to remote areas where services may be limited.
