Job Purpose

The Project Officer will support the effective implementation of peacebuilding and social cohesion projects in Sokoto State. The role involves coordinating field activities, engaging community stakeholders, supporting monitoring, evaluation and reporting processes, and ensuring that project delivery aligns with International Alert’s values, approaches and quality standards.

The post holder will work closely with the Project Manager to plan and implement project activities, liaise with partners and stakeholders, monitor project progress, and contribute to periodic reporting. The Project Officer will also collaborate with the Senior Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Officer to track project data, results and learning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting

The Project Officer will contribute to the development and implementation of project monitoring and evaluation plans. The role includes collecting qualitative and quantitative data during project activities in line with agreed monitoring frameworks, supporting project assessments and end of project evaluations, and participating in data collection processes. The post holder will prepare activity reports, contribute to donor reports, collect case studies, and follow up with project participants to document outcomes and lessons learned.

The Project Officer will support project staff and implementing partners to collect, analyse and verify monitoring data, including conducting verification visits to activity sites. The role also involves reviewing reports to donors to ensure accuracy of monitoring data and contributing to organisation wide learning and knowledge exchange on monitoring, evaluation and learning.

Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement

The Project Officer will participate actively in team management processes, including team meetings, information sharing, context analysis and strategy development. The role includes engaging with relevant stakeholders at community and state levels and representing International Alert in state level strategic forums when delegated by the line manager. The post holder will carry out any other reasonable duties as assigned by the line manager.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should have a university degree in a relevant field or at least two years of equivalent professional experience in peacebuilding. A minimum of four years of experience in community engagement or a related field is required. Experience working with an international non governmental organisation is an added advantage.

Applicants must demonstrate experience in governance, peacebuilding and livelihood support, as well as monitoring and evaluation and data management. Experience working on youth engagement projects is required. Strong coordination, communication and writing skills are essential, along with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The ability to work under pressure and in high risk security environments is required, as well as willingness to travel regularly to rural locations.

Language Requirements

Fluency in spoken and written English and Hausa is required. Knowledge of additional languages commonly spoken in Sokoto State is an advantage.

Travel

The position requires frequent travel to target local government areas within Sokoto State.
