Project Background / General Context

Following more than a decade of conflict in North-East Nigeria—particularly in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe (BAY States)—as well as parts of the North-West, the humanitarian situation remains critical.

According to the Humanitarian Needs Overview (2023):

  • About 8.3 million people require humanitarian and protection assistance
  • Over 2 million individuals are internally displaced due to ongoing violence
  • Food insecurity and malnutrition are worsening due to inflation, poverty, and insecurity
  • Gender-Based Violence (GBV) remains a major protection concern, especially for women and girls in IDP camps
  • Critical infrastructure such as healthcare facilities and water systems have been severely damaged
  • Disease outbreaks like cholera—often linked to flooding and overcrowded conditions—continue to pose serious risks

Job Title:

Information Management Officer

Location:

Maiduguri, Borno State

Job Purpose:

The Information Management Officer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining effective Information Management (IM) systems and strategies in line with INTERSOS standards. This includes overseeing the full data lifecycle—from collection and storage to analysis, reporting, sharing, and archiving.

The role aims to enhance data quality, support evidence-based decision-making, and strengthen both internal and external communication processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement data collection, management, and visualization tools in collaboration with MEAL and Programme teams
  • Ensure regular updates and quality assurance of programme databases while maintaining strict data protection standards
  • Support field teams in conducting assessments by designing surveys, forms, and other data tools
  • Collect and analyze information from clusters, partners, and other humanitarian actors
  • Clean, aggregate, and analyze datasets to ensure accuracy and reliability
  • Produce dashboards, reports, and visual materials to support communication and reporting needs
  • Train and build the capacity of staff on data collection and management tools
  • Provide technical guidance to MEAL and Programme teams on IM tools
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports
  • Participate in coordination meetings with other organizations and clusters
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures, guidelines, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Perform additional IM-related tasks as assigned by the line manager

Position Requirements:

Education:

  • B.Sc or HND in Information Management, Statistics, Data Analysis, or a related field

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in information management, preferably within a humanitarian context
  • Strong background in data analysis, statistics, and information systems

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Google Data Studio and Power BI
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
  • Experience with analytical tools (SPSS, STATA, R) is an added advantage
  • Knowledge of GIS tools is highly desirable

  • Ability to manage both qualitative and quantitative data
  • Excellent reporting and documentation skills
  • High attention to detail and data accuracy

Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required
