The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), has officially released the updated list of accredited Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centers across the country for the year 2025. This development is part of Nigeria’s national strategy to enhance youth empowerment, reduce unemployment, and build a workforce equipped with relevant technical skills for the modern economy.
What is TVET and Why it Matters in Nigeria Today
TVET is a system of education and training that focuses on equipping individuals with practical knowledge and industry-specific skills. It covers a wide range of trades including information technology, renewable energy, building and construction, hospitality, manufacturing, health sciences, agriculture, and more.
As Nigeria faces rising unemployment and underemployment, TVET has emerged as a solution to provide hands-on skills that lead directly to jobs or entrepreneurship opportunities. The federal and state governments are now prioritizing technical training as a central component of national development.
Overview of the 2025 TVET Accreditation Update
The 2025 list of accredited centers includes new approvals and the re-accreditation of existing institutions that meet NBTE standards. Below are key highlights from the update:
Over 500 centers across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are fully accredited
Training programs are aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework and meet international standards
Centers now offer emerging skill sets including drone technology, coding, AI, and solar energy
Accreditation ensures quality assurance, certification validity, and eligibility for federal support, educators, and stakeholders are encouraged to review the document to identify suitable training institutions in their respective states.
