The Fellowship Overview

We are pleased to announce the opening of applications for the Dev-Afrique Communications Fellowship (Nigeria). This is an elite, 6-month hybrid program designed for two experienced communications professionals who are passionate about the development sector. As a Fellow, you will not just be an observer; you will be an integral part of our creative and strategic team, contributing to major continental agendas.

We are seeking specialists for two distinct tracks:

Track 1: Corporate Communications Fellow

The Corporate Communications track is designed for a strategic thinker who understands how to manage organizational reputation and stakeholder perceptions.

Key Responsibilities:

•   Strategic Messaging: Develop and refine the “Dev-Afrique voice” across all corporate literature, ensuring consistency and alignment with our mission.

•   Media Relations: Build and maintain a robust network of media contacts across Nigeria and the wider continent to ensure high visibility for our projects.

•   Stakeholder Engagement: Draft high-level briefings, speeches, and reports for partners, donors, and government authorities.

•   Crisis Management: Support the development of communication protocols to safeguard the organization’s reputation.

Ideal Candidate: An individual with a background in Public Relations or Corporate Affairs who possesses exceptional writing skills and the ability to simplify complex development concepts for a diverse audience.

Track 2: Digital Communications Fellow

The Digital Communications track is for a creative strategist who knows how to leverage the digital ecosystem to drive engagement and advocacy.

Key Responsibilities:

•   Platform Strategy: Develop and execute multi-channel strategies across LinkedIn, X (Twitter), Instagram, and other emerging platforms.

•   Content Creation: Produce compelling digital assets, including high-quality copy, infographics, and short-form video scripts that tell the story of our impact.

•   Analytics & Optimization: Monitor digital performance metrics, utilizing data to refine strategies and improve audience reach.

•   Community Management: Foster meaningful dialogue within our digital communities, ensuring Dev-Afrique remains a thought leader in the development space.

Ideal Candidate: A digital native with a sharp eye for design and a data-driven approach to content. Proficiency in digital design tools and social media management software is essential.

General Qualifications and Requirements

•   Experience: Proven professional experience in a communications, marketing, or journalism role (preferably within the development or corporate sector).

•   Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, International Relations, Journalism, or a related field.

•   Skills: Exceptional command of the English language (written and verbal). Ability to work autonomously and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

•   Mindset: A deep passion for African development and a commitment to professional excellence.
