Focus Area: Digital Security and Protection for Civil Society Organizations

The Civic Space Resource Hub (CSR-Hub) is pleased to announce the commencement of applications for Cohort IV of its flagship capacity-building programme. This cycle is specifically dedicated to the Digital Security and Protection pillar, aiming to fortify the operational integrity of civil society organisations (CSOs) across West Africa.

In an era of increasing digital surveillance, cyber threats, and complex data regulations, the ability of civil society to operate safely and effectively online is paramount. CSR-Hub Cohort IV is designed to provide CSOs with the tools, knowledge, and strategic frameworks necessary to navigate these challenges and safeguard their mission-critical work.

Programme Overview

CSR-Hub is a strategic initiative committed to enhancing the resilience and sustainability of the civic space in West Africa. This 12-month intensive programme provides a comprehensive learning journey for selected organisations, helping them transition from digital vulnerability to robust resilience.

Through this cohort, CSR-Hub seeks to empower organisations in Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal. Participants will undergo a structured curriculum that addresses the evolving landscape of digital risks while fostering a culture of proactive protection within their organisational structures.

Core Pillars of Learning

Selected organisations will benefit from a multi-faceted approach to capacity building, focusing on:

•   Digital Security Practices: Implementing industry-standard protocols to secure communications, devices, and networks.

•   Data Protection & Privacy: Strengthening internal policies to comply with national and international data regulations while protecting the privacy of beneficiaries.

•   Organisational Resilience: Building defense mechanisms against online threats, including phishing, malware, and digital harassment.

•   Advanced Risk Management: Identifying, assessing, and mitigating digital risks through tailored strategic planning.

Learning Methodology

The programme utilizes a high-impact delivery model designed to ensure long-term retention and institutional change:

•   Tailored Training: Specialized modules led by regional experts in cybersecurity and civic advocacy.

•   Mentoring & Coaching: Direct access to seasoned professionals who provide one-on-one guidance on implementing security frameworks.

•   Peer Learning: Collaborative sessions with other CSOs to share best practices, case studies, and localized solutions.

Eligibility and Requirements

•   Target Organizations: Registered Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

•   Geographic Focus: Must be legally operating in Ghana, Nigeria, or Senegal.

•   Commitment: Organizations must demonstrate a clear commitment to participating in the full 12-month cycle and integrating digital security into their core operations.
