Position Summary

The Communication and Learning Officer supports program documentation storytelling and knowledge sharing by capturing field insights and producing communication materials that highlight program impact

Program Overview

Mercy Corps has been active in Nigeria since 2012 and expanded its humanitarian response in 2014 to address needs caused by conflict in the Northeast

Programs focus on food security shelter water sanitation protection livelihoods and long term resilience through economic recovery social cohesion and youth empowerment

Key Responsibilities

Program Documentation

Document activities through field visits interviews and observation

Capture beneficiary stories testimonials and community perspectives

Develop success stories case studies and human interest content

Communications and Content Development

Produce communication materials highlighting program impact

Support preparation of reports briefs and updates

Ensure all materials follow branding and visibility guidelines

Learning and Knowledge Management

Document lessons learned and best practices

Support learning sessions reflection meetings and reviews

Promote knowledge sharing across teams

Visual Documentation

Capture and manage photos and visual content

Maintain a communication materials library

Ensure ethical standards and consent procedures are followed

Collaboration

Work with program teams to identify stories and insights

Coordinate with Monitoring Evaluation and Learning teams to ensure accuracy

Security

Follow all organizational security policies and procedures

Organizational Learning

Participate in continuous learning activities

Accountability

Engage beneficiaries respectfully and uphold humanitarian standards

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Communications Journalism Development Studies Social Sciences or related field

Minimum of three years experience in communications or documentation in humanitarian or development settings

Strong writing and storytelling skills

Photography videography and design skills

Strong English communication skills

Experience conducting interviews and field documentation

Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams

Strong coordination and interpersonal skills

Fluency in Hausa

Reporting Line

Reports to Senior Learning and Communications Officer

Works closely with MEL and program teams

Success Factors

Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask

Good judgment and problem solving skills

Ability to work with diverse teams and cultural sensitivity

Strong organizational and teamwork skills

Must maintain professionalism during field assignments
