About the Role

AREAi is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Finance, Operations and Compliance (FOC) Officer to lead our financial management efforts. Based in Abuja, the successful candidate will oversee financial operations, ensure stringent compliance with international donor regulations, and provide strategic support to program teams to ensure cost-effective service delivery. This role is ideal for a professional with a high degree of integrity, strong financial acumen, and a proven track record in the NGO or donor-funded sector.

 Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting:

  Manage comprehensive financial operations, including budgeting, expenditure tracking, cash flow management, and monthly bank reconciliations.

  Prepare and monitor project budgets in alignment with approved work plans and donor agreements.

  Produce timely and accurate financial reports for donors, senior management, and internal reviews.

  Maintain meticulous financial records, organized filing systems, and updated asset registers.

Transaction & Operational Oversight:

  Process and verify invoices, petty cash, bank payments, travel claims, and settlements in accordance with AREAi policies.

  Manage imprests and project advances, ensuring proper documentation and authorization for all transactions.

  Coordinate financial audits and respond to audit queries in collaboration with the Development and Impact Strategy Team.

Compliance & Strategic Support:

  Ensure full compliance with AREAi internal policies, donor requirements (e.g., UN agencies, INGOs), and Nigerian statutory financial regulations (tax, etc.).

  Support program teams with financial planning, cost control, and budget utilization tracking.

  Provide financial guidance to project personnel to strengthen institutional accountability.

 Requirements and Experience

Education:

  Bachelor’s degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., ICAN, ANAN) is considered a strong advantage.

Experience:

  Minimum of 5 years of progressive work experience, with at least 3 years specifically within an NGO or donor-funded environment.

  Proven experience working with multi-project and multi-funding sources in a regional or field office setting.

  Strong understanding of international donor compliance (UN agencies, international development partners).

Skills & Competencies:

  Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel is essential).

  High level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail.

  Ability to analyze complex financial data to support strategic decision-making.

  Knowledge of procurement and supply chain management is an added advantage.

 Compensation & Benefits

  Salary: Competitive and commensurate with professional experience.

  Travel: Opportunity for international travel to field sites approximately every 1–2 months.
