Call for Applications: Master Research Programme in Informatics for Climate Change 2026/2027 Academic Session
The West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) invites applications for the Master Research Programme in Informatics for Climate Change for the 2026/2027 academic session. The programme will be hosted at Université Joseph Ki-Zerbo in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
The programme is implemented under the WASCAL Capacity Building Programme and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space. In addition, applications are currently open for the fifth cohort of students. These applicants should be interested in pursuing advanced research that integrates informatics and climate science.
The Master Research Programme in Informatics for Climate Change aims to train highly qualified professionals. These graduates must be capable of applying computing, data science, and digital technologies to address climate change challenges in West Africa. The programme combines advanced coursework with applied research. This approach serves to strengthen regional capacity in climate data analysis, environmental monitoring, and sustainable land use management. Furthermore, graduates of the programme are expected to contribute to innovative solutions. These solutions should support climate resilience and evidence based policy development.
WASCAL is a West African international organization focused on academic and transdisciplinary research related to climate change and adapted land use. The organization works to strengthen graduate level scientific capacity. It also supports policy makers with science based information for climate adaptation and environmental sustainability. Additionally, through collaboration with universities, research institutions, and development partners, WASCAL provides a platform for scientific excellence and regional knowledge exchange.
WASCAL is supported by multilateral and bilateral partners as well as its twelve West African member countries which include Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, The Gambia, and Togo.
