Behaviour Supervisor – MSF Nigeria

Location: Abuja (with project-level supervision in Gwoza and Zamfara)

Contract Type: Fixed-term, 6 months (Level 7)

Working Hours: 208 hours/month

Organization Overview:

MSF is an international humanitarian organization providing emergency medical assistance to populations in crisis without discrimination. Active in Nigeria for 20 years, MSF supports communities affected by conflict, disasters, and epidemics.

Main Purpose:

  • Supervise and monitor safeguarding and prevention activities.
  • Implement the MSF Behavioural Commitments and safeguarding minimum standards.
  • Manage all safeguarding/behavior officers or focal points at project level.
  • Promote a safe environment for staff, patients, and communities.

Key Responsibilities:

Mission-Level Collaboration:

  • Engage with HoM, Dep HoM, Project Coordinators, and HR to determine safeguarding needs.
  • Collaborate with coordination teams on embedding safeguarding standards in contractual frameworks.

Strategy & Implementation:

  • Design, implement, and follow up on safeguarding and behavior management strategies.
  • Conduct context analyses related to feedback and complaint barriers.
  • Supervise risk analysis and develop mitigation plans.
  • Ensure secure documentation and confidentiality of safeguarding information.

Training & Awareness:

  • Conduct awareness and sensitization sessions for staff, MoH personnel, patients, and community members.
  • Supervise safeguarding trainings and ensure field-level compliance.
  • Support dissemination of prevention tools such as leaflets, videos, and posters.

Supervision & Team Management:

  • Supervise Behaviour Officers and focal points at project level.
  • Provide guidance on community-based complaint mechanisms.
  • Support managers in identifying and responding to ethics concerns.

Reporting:

  • Produce monthly reports evaluating barriers, strengths, weaknesses, activities conducted, and recommendations.
  • Track referrals, escalation, and follow-up of safeguarding issues.

Project-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Directly implement safeguarding activities in Gwoza project.
  • Embed safeguarding principles across health service delivery points.
  • Conduct safeguarding briefings for staff, partners, and community health workers.

Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science, Law, Education, or Social Communication.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years in safeguarding within an international organization (required).
  • Humanitarian field experience is an asset.
  • Experience in social work, rights-based, or women-focused organizations is preferred.
  • Familiarity with MSF roles (HAO, PC, Dep HoM, HoM) is a plus.

  • Flexibility, teamwork, results, and quality orientation.
  • English essential; local language knowledge desirable.
  • Computer literacy for reporting and analysis.

Remuneration:

  • As per MSF national salary scale.
