The Faraday Institution is looking to nominate a cohort of inaugural Battery Ambassadors, one per country, with the goal of further promoting battery technology and energy storage research and networking across sub–Saharan Africa, South Asia and the Indo-Pacific.

The vision is to create a strong Battery Network of professionals working in this sector, that will enable knowledge transfer and skill development that supports the advancement of the clean energy transition. Battery Ambassadors will play a key role in gathering battery experts in their country to be part of this initiative.

Eligible countries are those that are members of the Transforming Energy Access Learning Partnership: Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Fiji, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Eligibility

Be a mid to senior academic (scientist or engineer) working on or with a strong interest in battery technology or energy storage research in one of the focus countries.
Be able to attend the Faraday Institution Annual Conference 10th – 12th September 2024 being held in the UK.
Commit to promoting battery technology and energy storage research in the country where working and to growing a network of battery professionals.
Who are they looking to work with?

Talented individuals who are passionate about seeing battery technology and energy storage solutions advanced and implemented in the quest for a clean energy transition.
What must you be able to demonstrate?

You are working in a relevant academic role (mid to senior career stage)
That your research is linked to batteries and energy storage
A high degree of motivation towards networking and collaboration
Commitment to the role for a period of 12 months in the first instance, to include full attendance at the Faraday Institution Annual Conference 2024
Supervisor and academic institution support

How to apply

Applications need to be made via Flexigrant. As part of your application, you will be asked to provide:

a mandatory letter of support from your supervisor
a 3-minute video to support your application (further instructions on Flexigrant)
The closing date for applications is 12th May 2024.
