STATE IMMUNIZATION CONSULTANT

JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. is seeking qualified public health professionals for the position of State Immunization Consultant to provide technical assistance and strategic support to State Primary Health Care Development Agencies or Boards across selected states in Nigeria.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The State Immunization Consultant will provide strategic and technical support to the State Primary Health Care Development Agency or Board, SPHCDA/B, and its operational arm, the State Emergency Operations Center, SEOC.

The Consultant will work closely with JSI teams and government counterparts to strengthen immunization planning and implementation at state and LGA levels.

The role will support efforts to improve immunization coverage, strengthen routine immunization services, support opportunistic nOPV2 delivery, promote state ownership and accountability, and generate evidence to inform future programme scale-up.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Serve as a strategic technical advisor to the SPHCDA/B and represent JSI in relevant routine immunization and polio eradication technical working groups and sub-committees.
  2. Support alignment of state-level immunization activities with national strategies for routine immunization and interruption of cVDPV2 transmission.
  3. Support the adaptation, dissemination and use of operational guidelines, SOPs and job aids at state, LGA, health facility and community levels.
  4. Support evidence generation, learning documentation, donor reporting, meeting notes, success stories and other project reports.
  5. Prepare technical progress reports, work plans, success stories and other technical documents.
  6. Contribute to capacity building for health personnel on routine immunization and nOPV2 administration.
  7. Support training and implementation relating to demand generation, supportive supervision, vaccine management and adverse event monitoring.
  8. Support documentation of project activities in relevant project databases and NHMIS data tools.
  9. Support the SPHCDA/B and SEOC in the delivery of nOPV2 through opportunistic platforms in line with national technical guidance.
  10. Monitor project performance by working with SPHCDA/B and partners to collect and analyse data, track progress and implement corrective actions.
  11. Maintain regular communication with JSI Nigeria leadership and the JSI global Immunization practice team.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should have:

  1. An advanced degree in Public Health, Nursing or a related field.
  2. More than 5 years of experience in primary health care and public health programme management.
  3. Strong knowledge of immunization programming, vaccinology, maternal health and child health.
  4. At least 2 years of practical experience in a management position.
  5. Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership to government and partner counterparts at the subnational level.
  6. Practical experience in immunization programmes, including polio eradication, in both urban and rural settings.
  7. Knowledge of Nigeria’s Ministry of Health and SPHCDA/B structures.
  8. Excellent work planning, documentation and reporting skills.
  9. Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
  10. Fluency in English.

ADDITIONAL ADVANTAGE

Experience working on projects supported by international immunization partners such as the Gates Foundation, United States Government, WHO or UNICEF will be an added advantage.
