ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Value Chains for Agriculture, Climate and Employment (VACE) project, co-financed by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), aims to promote sustainable rural economic development by supporting agricultural clusters in selected transition states in Nigeria.
The project seeks to increase agricultural production, create employment opportunities, improve rural incomes, strengthen food security, and increase resilience to external shocks.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Junior Access to Finance Advisor will support efforts to improve access to investment and financing for smallholder farmers, agribusinesses, and MSMEs within targeted agricultural value chains.
The role will identify and develop partnerships with financial institutions, investors, government agencies, development programmes, and other stakeholders while supporting investment matchmaking and the establishment of Village Savings and Loans Associations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the identification and resolution of barriers to finance for actors in targeted value chains.
- Organise discussions and roundtables on improving access to finance for farmers and producers.
- Establish partnerships with public and private institutions to improve capital flows to smallholder farmers and Agri-MSMEs.
- Collaborate with development programmes and stakeholders to develop solutions to agricultural financing challenges.
- Support financial institutions in developing or adapting suitable financial products and instruments.
- Assess the financial needs of project beneficiaries and connect them with suitable financing opportunities.
- Support investor engagement and due diligence for suitable agribusinesses.
- Assist with deal rooms and matchmaking events between investors and potential investees.
- Support MSMEs in developing investable financing and investment proposals.
- Support the establishment and strengthening of Village Savings and Loans Associations across project value chains and states.
- Prepare reports and documentation relating to access to finance and investment activities.
- Participate in knowledge-sharing activities within the agriculture cluster and other GIZ programmes.
- Support the development of work plans, budgets, reports, communication, and knowledge-management activities.
- Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Investment, Finance, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship Development, or a related field from a reputable institution.
- Not more than 3 years of professional experience in the financial sector and/or supporting smallholder farmers and MSMEs to access finance or investment.
- Familiarity with investment facilitation and matchmaking processes.
- Experience supporting MSMEs with fundraising for equity investment and debt financing.
- Ability to analyse business financial needs and match businesses with suitable sources of funding.
- Knowledge of impact investing, philanthropy, innovative finance, Venture Capital, Private Equity, government/MDAs, and the Nigerian MSME sector.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Strong networking and teamwork abilities.
- Passion for gender equality, inclusion, and working with diverse stakeholders.
- Additional Nigerian language skills are an advantage.
IMPORTANT LOCATION NOTE
The position will initially be based in Abuja, with a high likelihood of relocation to Abeokuta.
