ABOUT THE ROLE

Evidence Action is seeking a Policy and Government Engagement Support professional to contribute to its efforts to strengthen relationships with government stakeholders and advance evidence-based policy change in Nigeria.

The role will support policy research, government engagement, stakeholder coordination, documentation, communication, and the development of materials that translate evidence into actionable insights for policymakers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conduct research on relevant government policies, programmes, legislative developments, and governance issues.
  2. Review policy documents, government reports, and related materials to identify opportunities for evidence-based advocacy.
  3. Prepare policy briefs, background notes, presentations, talking points, and meeting materials.
  4. Secure and coordinate meetings with government officials, ministries, departments, and agencies.
  5. Independently coordinate and host meetings with government stakeholders.
  6. Maintain stakeholder databases, contact lists, meeting schedules, and policy engagement records.
  7. Build and maintain professional relationships with government contacts and other stakeholders.
  8. Follow up persistently and diplomatically on pending appointments, approvals, and responses.
  9. Track and document policy engagement activities, meetings, and communications.
  10. Support data collection and analysis related to policy influence and government collaboration.
  11. Maintain calendars covering policy events, government deadlines, changes in officials, and advocacy opportunities.
  12. Prepare case studies documenting the impact of Evidence Action’s policy engagement efforts.
  13. Collaborate with programme, research, and communications teams.
  14. Provide administrative and other support to advance the organization’s policy objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Development, Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, International Development, Public Health, Development Studies, Communications, or a related field.
  2. Approximately 2 years of experience in a role involving persuasion, sales, negotiation, relationship management, client servicing, business development, marketing, protocol, liaison, or similar face-to-face engagement.
  3. Strong ability to build relationships and communicate confidently with senior stakeholders.
  4. Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  6. Proficiency in Google Workspace, including Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
  7. Experience preparing and formatting professional presentations and briefing materials.
  8. Familiarity with Canva or similar design tools.
  9. Strong research, organization, time-management, and documentation skills.
  10. Persistence and diplomacy when working with government offices and navigating bureaucratic processes.
  11. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  12. Professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information.
  13. Hausa language skills are an advantage but not mandatory.
  14. Nigerian citizenship or valid work authorization is required.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

Evidence Action is particularly interested in candidates with commercial or relationship-focused backgrounds, including sales, business development, account management, relationship management, client servicing, marketing, brand activation, trade development, protocol, or liaison work.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate situations where they successfully secured access, maintained relationships, persuaded stakeholders, or moved decisions forward.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  1. Secure at least 6 requested meetings by December 2026.
  2. Host at least 4 meetings by December 2026 and submit meeting reports within 2 working days.
  3. Deliver presentation materials accurately within 48 hours of assignment.
  4. Maintain a 24-hour follow-up and resolution rate on pending stakeholder requests and appointments.
  5. Demonstrate strong professionalism and relationship-building skills.
  6. Complete learning and development initiatives and maintain updated stakeholder and government official contact lists.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The role requires regular engagement with government officials and flexibility around stakeholder schedules, including possible impromptu meetings and occasional late hours.
