The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is recruiting a Sexual Reproductive Health – GBV Engagement Officer to support efforts to increase access to and utilization of quality sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence services among women, girls, adolescents, and other vulnerable populations affected by conflict and displacement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Develop and coordinate community engagement activities that promote awareness and uptake of SRH and GBV services.
2. Organize community meetings, small-group discussions, awareness activities, and outreach on SRH, GBV prevention, available services, and referral options.
3. Work with community health workers, volunteers, women’s and youth groups, traditional and religious leaders, and other community structures.
4. Identify social, cultural, financial, distance, and other barriers to accessing services and support practical solutions.
5. Provide accurate and culturally appropriate information on family planning, maternal health, post-violence care, psychosocial support, protection services, and referrals.
6. Support safe, confidential, and survivor-centred GBV referrals while protecting privacy, dignity, informed choice, and autonomy.
7. Maintain updated information on available health, GBV case management, MHPSS, legal, child protection, and other referral services.
8. Strengthen linkages between communities, IRC-supported facilities, government health facilities, and referral partners.
9. Engage men, boys, community leaders, youth groups, women’s groups, and community influencers in promoting positive attitudes and better SRH outcomes.
10. Establish accessible community feedback mechanisms and use feedback to improve services.
11. Coordinate with Health, WPE, Protection, MHPSS, government authorities, LGA structures, community organizations, and humanitarian partners.
12. Train and mentor community health workers, volunteers, peer educators, and other community actors on approved SRH and GBV approaches.
13. Maintain accurate records and monitor community outreach, referrals, training, feedback, reach, and programme results.
14. Document lessons learned, community concerns, successful approaches, and implementation challenges.
15. Follow IRC safeguarding, confidentiality, information-sharing, protection, and accountability procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Public Health, Community Health, Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work, Psychology, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Sociology, or a related field.
2. 3–5 years of relevant experience in SRH, GBV, community engagement, health promotion, protection, humanitarian, or development programmes.
3. Practical experience working with women, girls, adolescents, displaced populations, and other vulnerable groups.
4. Experience conducting community discussions, training, awareness activities, and outreach.
5. Good knowledge of SRH and GBV services, referral systems, survivor-centred support, confidentiality, informed consent, safeguarding, protection, and the principle of doing no harm.
6. Strong communication, coordination, facilitation, community mobilization, and reporting skills.
7. Ability to work with government health teams, community organizations, humanitarian partners, and service providers.
8. Fluency in relevant local languages, particularly Hausa and/or Kanuri, is highly desirable.
9. Willingness and ability to travel regularly to communities and supported facilities, including hard-to-reach areas.
