ABOUT THE ROLE
Wema Bank is seeking a commercially driven and relationship-focused professional to join its sales team as a Commercial Relationship Management Officer.
The role is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with commercial and retail customers, identifying and converting sales opportunities, driving customer acquisition, growing deposits and lending volumes, and supporting the profitability of the branch.
The successful candidate will also monitor market and competitor activities, identify emerging business opportunities, and provide insights that can support the development and improvement of products and services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
SALES MANAGEMENT
Execute the branch commercial sales strategy based on local market conditions and business opportunities.
Drive customer acquisition and grow commercial business volumes through the opening of different types of accounts.
Maintain strong product knowledge and identify opportunities for cross-selling and up-selling.
Build and maintain relationships with existing commercial customers while identifying and acquiring new customers.
Provide feedback to the sales and product management teams on market conditions, customer needs, and opportunities for new or improved products.
Deliver sales presentations and engage prospective customers.
Visit existing and potential customers to understand their needs and promote relevant products and services.
Coordinate sales activities with marketing programmes.
Promote a positive sales environment by educating customers on the Bank’s products and services.
Convert service-recovery opportunities into business opportunities while maintaining customer loyalty.
RISK MANAGEMENT
Identify lending risks within the Bank’s risk appetite and support profitable lending decisions.
Comply with the Bank’s complaint-resolution processes and service standards.
Ensure adherence to KYC requirements and internal policies to minimise fraud and operational losses.
Discuss loan terms and conditions with customers and conduct collateral risk assessments where applicable.
Ensure all documentation within the assigned portfolio is valid, complete, and up to date.
Adhere to all applicable Bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Analyse financial statements, cash-flow forecasts, and other financial reports to support accurate assessments.
Conduct prequalification assessments and analyse the financial condition and risks associated with financing requests.
Assess financial statements of prospective customers and evaluate relevant loan documentation.
Contribute to the growth of deposits, loans, and overdrafts to improve branch profitability.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Maintain high customer-service standards and contribute to improved service delivery.
Record and address customer complaints while identifying root causes and preventing recurring issues.
Recommend appropriate products and services through suitable channels based on customer needs.
Provide holistic needs analysis and consultation to key customers within the assigned portfolio.
Take ownership of customer-service matters and ensure timely resolution.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
Collaborate with colleagues across the branch to ensure effective support and service delivery.
Contribute to a positive, proactive, and collaborative workplace culture.
Comply with safety, wellbeing, HR, and corporate policies.
Demonstrate good leadership skills and serve as a role model for the Bank’s values.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of a First Degree in any discipline.
Additional qualifications are an added advantage.
3–8 years of relevant cognate experience.
Experience in sales and marketing.
CIBN professional certification is required/preferred as stated for the role.
Digitally savvy with the ability to use relevant digital tools effectively.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-management skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Strong commitment to excellent customer service.
Strategic thinking and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work effectively with others and lead a team.
