ABOUT THE ROLE
Save the Children International is seeking a qualified Child Health and Immunization Officer to support the implementation of high-quality child health and immunization programmes in Lagos.
The successful candidate will provide technical support, strengthen programme quality, build the capacity of health workers, support research and learning, and contribute to effective stakeholder engagement and advocacy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Programme Quality
- Provide technical expertise to ensure programmes meet Save the Children and country standards.
- Support programme planning, budgeting, evaluations, reporting and documentation.
- Identify technical capacity gaps and support mobilisation of appropriate technical assistance.
- Contribute to operational and analytical research, publication and dissemination of findings.
- Document lessons learned and support continuous improvement of programme performance.
- Contribute to quality quarterly and annual reports and timely submission of deliverables.
Capacity Building
- Build the capacity of health facility workers to deliver quality child health and immunization programmes.
Representation and Advocacy
- Represent the programme at LGA and community-level stakeholder forums.
- Establish partnerships with community-based organisations, traditional and religious leaders, development organisations and other relevant groups.
- Support advocacy activities targeting decision-makers at different levels.
- Ensure programme evidence, learning and research findings are appropriately documented and shared.
Safeguarding
- Support safeguarding risk assessments and mitigation planning.
- Report safeguarding concerns identified during programme implementation.
- Promote awareness of Save the Children’s Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct among children and programme beneficiaries.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Applicants should have:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Health, Public Health, or a related field, or be a registered Nurse/Midwife.
- Health professionals, particularly medical doctors or nurses with clinical training experience, are preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience implementing and providing technical assistance to maternal, newborn and child health programmes in developing-country settings.
- Demonstrated expertise in child survival programme development and management.
- Strong experience in immunization service delivery, programme design and implementation.
- Experience facilitating training and supportive supervision.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
KEY COMPETENCIES
The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong programme management, problem-solving, teamwork, stakeholder engagement, adaptability, negotiation and conflict-resolution skills.
The candidate should also be able to use beneficiary and partner feedback to improve programme design, planning and learning.
