Medical Supervisor at Médecins du Monde (MdM) – Katsina

Médecins du Monde (MdM) is recruiting a qualified and experienced medical professional for the position of Medical Supervisor in Katsina State.

The successful candidate will provide clinical and operational leadership for a Cholera Treatment Unit (CTU), ensuring that patients receive quality, evidence-based care while clinical, infection prevention, surveillance, reporting, and emergency response standards are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

The Medical Supervisor will work under the technical supervision of the Program Manager and will be responsible for the overall clinical and operational management of the CTU.

Key duties include:

  • Ensuring standardized cholera case management protocols are implemented.
  • Providing clinical leadership and supervision to doctors, nurses, CHWs, and other clinical personnel.
  • Overseeing triage, diagnosis, treatment, referral, and discharge of cholera patients.
  • Ensuring correct assessment and management of dehydration.
  • Supervising the appropriate use of ORS, IV fluids, antibiotics, zinc, and other treatments.
  • Reviewing complicated cases and supporting timely referrals.
  • Conducting clinical audits and ensuring proper medical documentation.
  • Supervising daily CTU operations, staff schedules, patient flow, and performance.
  • Providing bedside mentoring, supportive supervision, and on-the-job training.
  • Identifying capacity gaps and organizing refresher training for clinical staff.

Infection Prevention and Control

The Medical Supervisor will ensure strict compliance with IPC measures, including:

  • Hand hygiene.
  • Appropriate use of PPE.
  • Chlorine preparation and use.
  • Environmental cleaning and waste management.
  • Patient isolation and cohorting.
  • Decontamination procedures.
  • Routine IPC assessments and corrective actions.

Surveillance, Data and Reporting

The role will also involve:

  • Monitoring daily CTU admissions, discharges, referrals, deaths, and recoveries.
  • Tracking key indicators such as Case Fatality Rate, bed occupancy, length of stay, and treatment outcomes.
  • Participating in epidemiological surveillance and outbreak investigations.
  • Preparing daily, weekly, and outbreak reports.
  • Ensuring clinical data is accurate, confidential, and submitted on time.
  • Immediately reporting unusual disease trends, increased mortality, and operational challenges.

Logistics and Emergency Response

The Medical Supervisor will coordinate with pharmacy, logistics, WASH, nutrition, MHPSS, surveillance, and other teams to ensure an integrated cholera response.

The position will also monitor the availability and appropriate use of essential medicines, medical supplies, PPE, chlorine, laboratory supplies, and medical equipment.

The successful candidate may participate in emergency preparedness, outbreak response, rapid assessments, CTU expansion, and other public health emergency activities.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess:

  • MBBS qualification.
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in a similar role within the humanitarian sector or in supervision of health facilities.
  • Experience working with Ministry of Health structures and in health-system strengthening.
  • Experience in emergency response, outbreak management, and integrated health programming.
  • Ability to analyze epidemiological situations and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and supervision skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make rapid, informed decisions.
  • Cultural sensitivity, adaptability, and professionalism.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of the local language is an added advantage.

Additional health-related certifications will be an advantage.

Salary

₦750,000 – ₦1,000,000 monthly
