ABOUT THE ROLE
Nutrition International is seeking a Senior Program Officer to provide technical and program management support for Vitamin A Supplementation and child survival programming in Katsina and Jigawa States.
The successful candidate will lead planning, implementation, monitoring, coordination, and evaluation of Vitamin A Supplementation activities, working closely with government authorities, LGAs, communities, UN agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the management of Vitamin A Supplementation programming in Katsina and Jigawa States.
Develop and plan projects addressing identified programming gaps and implementation challenges.
Develop project budgets and monitor financial commitments.
Manage 20 or more LGA Coordinators and 2 State Coordinators.
Oversee workplans, performance, regular check ins, and capacity building for program teams.
Coordinate with government and community stakeholders to ensure effective and cost efficient implementation.
Monitor project activities and results through field visits and online coordination.
Prepare periodic and annual project reports.
Support research and evaluation activities.
Build relationships with Ministries of Health, government agencies, UN agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
Contribute to policy briefs, case studies, blogs, and other knowledge products.
QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree or higher from a recognised university in Nutrition or Public Health with emphasis on nutrition.
Other relevant disciplines may be considered with significant relevant experience.
Training in epidemiology, data analysis, and research methodologies is desirable.
Postgraduate certificate in project management is an added advantage.
EXPERIENCE
At least 10 years of experience in child survival, health, nutrition, or related programs in low and middle income or low resource settings.
At least 3 years of field experience.
Significant experience managing grant funded health and nutrition programs, particularly in Northern Nigeria.
Experience working with local community actors in Katsina or Jigawa States.
Strong understanding of health systems and community structures in Northwestern Nigeria.
Experience working within the Nigerian health system.
Proven experience leading, motivating, and managing cross functional teams.
Experience with gender responsive nutrition or public health programming is an advantage.
Experience working in conflict affected or hard to reach communities is desirable.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Fluent written and spoken English is essential.
Knowledge of Hausa and relevant local languages is an advantage.
