🦠 About the Role

The consultant will support infectious disease surveillance and preparedness across human, animal and environmental health sectors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting event-based and community-based surveillance
  • Assisting with early-warning systems for infectious diseases
  • Supporting EBS, CBS, IDSR and zoonotic-disease training
  • Helping review SOPs, guidelines and job aids
  • Supporting mentorship of health workers
  • Assisting with surveillance data entry, validation and basic analysis
  • Mapping surveillance systems, stakeholders and data flows
  • Preparing field reports, meeting minutes, action trackers and training reports
  • Working with government counterparts and other stakeholders at state and local levels

🎓 Requirements

Education
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as:

  • Public Health
  • Nursing
  • Medicine
  • Epidemiology
  • Health Information Systems
  • Biology
  • Microbiology
  • Zoology
  • Veterinary Science
  • Environmental Health

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is required.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience, with internships, volunteer work and fellowships counting toward this requirement.
  • Experience in infectious disease surveillance, disease reporting, environmental/animal health surveillance, One Health coordination or public-health data management.
  • Documentation, data entry or health/research reporting experience is desirable.

⭐ Added Advantages

  • Frontline Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) or equivalent epidemiology training
  • Familiarity with IDSR, NADIS, event-based surveillance (EBS) or community-based surveillance (CBS)
  • Experience working with government stakeholders

  • Strong English communication skills
  • Good organisational and time-management abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Proficiency with digital data-collection/reporting tools
  • Willingness to travel within the assigned state
  • Legal authorization to work in Nigeria
  • Must be based in or willing to relocate to Adamawa, Enugu, Kano or Lagos

Important: This is particularly relevant for candidates with a public-health, epidemiology, health-information, laboratory, environmental-health, veterinary or One Health background.
