Solidarités International is currently seeking a qualified and experienced WASH Programme Manager to support its humanitarian operations in Maiduguri. The organization is known for delivering life-saving assistance in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in emergency and conflict-affected settings.

Role Overview

The WASH Programme Manager plays a critical leadership role in overseeing the full project cycle—from assessment and design to implementation, monitoring, and closure. The position ensures that all interventions are delivered efficiently, meet donor and organizational standards, and respond effectively to the needs of vulnerable populations. The role also serves as a key link between field teams, partners, and stakeholders, ensuring coordination, quality control, and accountability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategy and Programme Development
The role contributes to the development of multi-year strategies and annual planning processes. The manager supports sectoral strategy design, ensuring all activities align with organizational policies and evidence gathered from field operations.

2. Project Design and Assessment
The position involves conducting needs assessments, analyzing environmental and protection risks, and contributing to proposal development, including logical frameworks and concept notes. The manager also identifies innovative approaches and potential partnerships to strengthen programme impact.

3. Implementation and Monitoring
The manager ensures smooth project implementation by coordinating with departments such as MEAL, finance, HR, logistics, and security. Responsibilities include budget monitoring, planning, supervision of field activities, and integrating cross-cutting themes like public health, climate, and protection.

4. Reporting and Representation
The role requires preparing high-quality internal and donor reports, maintaining communication with stakeholders, and representing the organization in coordination meetings and forums. The manager also ensures proper documentation and compliance with reporting standards.

5. Team Management and Leadership
The WASH Programme Manager supervises and supports field teams by recruiting, training, and evaluating staff performance. The role promotes a collaborative work environment and ensures adherence to HR policies and safeguarding standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in fields such as Hydraulic Engineering, Public Health, Environmental Engineering, or related disciplines, along with 3–4 years of relevant experience in humanitarian WASH programming.

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Strong technical knowledge of WASH infrastructure and environmental health
  • Experience in project cycle management and donor-funded programmes
  • Skills in proposal writing, budgeting, and reporting
  • Proficiency in tools such as AutoCAD, GIS, and Microsoft Office
  • Strong leadership, coordination, and analytical abilities
  • Fluency in English (mandatory), with Hausa as an added advantage
