Supervisory Visa Assistant at the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos

The United States Mission to Nigeria is recruiting for the position of Supervisory Visa Assistant at the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos under announcement number Lagos 2026 006S. This is a full time role based in Lagos.

The successful candidate will serve as the supervisor of a thirteen person locally employed staff team in the Nonimmigrant Visa Unit which is the largest of its kind in Africa. The role involves coordinating the processing of all nonimmigrant visa applications within the Lagos consular district including tourist student and work related visas. The officer will oversee more than 300000 visa cases annually and manage scheduling prescreening intake data entry visa printing and fraud screening processes.

The position includes direct supervision of two to three team leads and indirect supervision of multiple visa assistants. Responsibilities also include staff evaluation training onboarding and ensuring a diverse and inclusive work environment. The candidate will act as a liaison between visa staff consular officers and the fraud prevention unit while advising on operational improvements.

Applicants may qualify through either of two pathways. Option one requires a university degree in fields such as Business Administration Communications Public Administration Sociology or Law along with at least three years of relevant work experience including one year in a supervisory role. Option two requires five years of relevant experience and at least two years of university education. NYSC certification is required where applicable.

Strong organizational communication and decision making skills are essential along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to work accurately in a high pressure environment.
