Established in 2003, the Malaria Consortium is a leading international non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention, control, and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases, particularly among vulnerable populations in Africa and Asia. Through evidence-based interventions, the organization aims to save lives, improve health outcomes, and promote universal health coverage.
The organization is currently seeking to engage highly experienced professionals as State Lead Consultants to support the implementation of large-scale quantitative and qualitative surveys under the SMC + VAS (Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention + Vitamin A Supplementation) project. These roles are based in Bauchi State and Niger State, covering multiple Local Government Areas within both states.
Assignment Overview
The purpose of this engagement is to support the design, coordination, and execution of surveys including Post MNCHW 1 (baseline), LQAS cycle surveys, and Post MNCHW 2 (endline). These surveys aim to assess the coverage, effectiveness, feasibility, and acceptability of integrating Vitamin A Supplementation with Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention.
The study will span 45 LGAs (20 in Bauchi and 25 in Niger), covering hundreds of wards and communities. Using a multistage sampling approach, the surveys will target approximately 1,800 children across baseline and endline rounds, alongside qualitative assessments involving Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs).
Role Summary
The State Lead Consultant will take primary responsibility for leading the quantitative survey component, ensuring adherence to established methodologies such as Lot Quality Assurance Sampling (LQAS). The consultant will oversee data collection processes, supervise state consultants and data collectors, and ensure high-quality data output.
The role also involves close collaboration with Monitoring and Evaluation teams, including Senior M&E Officers, to ensure alignment with project objectives and data quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will coordinate and lead data collector training sessions, focusing on tools such as SurveyCTO and KoboCollect, as well as survey methodologies and questionnaires. They will also oversee the deployment and troubleshooting of data collection tools.
Additionally, the consultant will supervise field activities, conduct routine data quality checks, and ensure timely data uploads and validation. Responsibilities include organizing daily review meetings, piloting survey tools, and addressing any data inconsistencies.
The role further requires cleaning and analyzing final datasets using STATA, preparing preliminary and final reports, and ensuring compliance with data protection regulations. The consultant will also contribute to report writing, presenting findings in a clear and structured format.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must possess a postgraduate degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in social, behavioral, or health sciences. A minimum of 10 years of experience in conducting and managing quantitative surveys is required.
Candidates should demonstrate strong expertise in data analysis, research methodologies, and report writing. Proficiency in SurveyCTO, KoboCollect, and STATA is essential. Experience in leading evaluations and managing large-scale field surveys will be a significant advantage.
Deliverables
The consultant will be expected to produce a clean and complete dataset covering thousands of households, along with detailed analytical reports. Final reports must include sections such as executive summary, methodology, findings, discussion, and recommendations, supported by tables and visual data representations.
