ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

The Obaji Development Foundation ODF invites applications from suitable and qualified Nigerian journalists for a 5 day capacity building workshop focused on countering disinformation and Foreign Influence and Manipulation of Information FIMI.

The workshop aims to strengthen the ability of Nigerian journalists to identify, analyse and counter disinformation while promoting ethical and fact based reporting.

Through interactive sessions, case studies and practical exercises, participants will develop practical skills in disinformation detection, digital forensics, fact checking, investigative journalism and collaborative reporting.

KEY OBJECTIVES

1. Equip participants with tools and techniques for detecting disinformation campaigns.
2. Improve understanding of disinformation strategies used by threat actors, with particular emphasis on Africa and Nigerian elections.
3. Promote collaborative fact checking and investigative journalism networks.
4. Strengthen media literacy and public trust in Nigerian journalism.

WHO CAN APPLY

Applicants must:

1. Have at least 2 years of experience practising journalism.
2. Work in print, electronic or online media in Nigeria.
3. Work with a reputable media or fact checking organisation in Nigeria.
4. Have the endorsement of their organisation’s Editor or Chief Executive.
5. Be willing to devote time to producing disinformation research and analysis after the training.
6. Provide proof of fact checking content published within the last 12 months.

IMPORTANT ELIGIBILITY CONDITION

Only 1 journalist can participate from each organisation.

WORKSHOP DETAILS

The workshop will be fully residential and will take place in Abuja from Monday, 5 October 2026 to Friday, 9 October 2026.

The programme will provide participants with practical learning opportunities designed to improve their capacity to investigate and respond to disinformation threats affecting Nigeria’s media environment and democratic processes.
