About the Role

HumAngle Media Limited is seeking an experienced Senior Research and Conflict Data Lead to lead and grow its research, conflict-data and commercial advisory capabilities across Nigeria, the Lake Chad Basin and the Sahel.

The successful candidate will provide research and analytical leadership while developing a high-performing research and advisory team, delivering commissioned research, developing proposals and building strategic partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

Research and Analytical Leadership

• Lead original research on conflict, political violence, terrorism, violent extremism, conflict economies, civilian protection and regional security.
• Develop and strengthen research methodologies, including field interviews, source verification, triangulation and confidence assessment.
• Produce and supervise research reports, analytical briefs, datasets, maps and policy products.
• Apply quantitative, qualitative, GIS, network-analysis and mixed-method approaches.

Conflict Data and Methodology

• Lead the development and maintenance of conflict-data systems.
• Establish standards for data collection, validation, documentation and quality assurance.
• Apply statistical analysis, GIS, network analysis and OSINT where appropriate.

Commercial Research and Advisory

• Grow HumAngle’s research and advisory practice.
• Develop research and advisory offerings for institutional clients.
• Identify opportunities, develop technical proposals and support competitive bids.
• Build partnerships and a sustainable pipeline of research engagements.

Team Leadership

• Recruit, supervise and mentor researchers and research assistants.
• Establish research workflows, quality-control systems and performance expectations.
• Build internal capacity in research design, conflict data, verification and analytical writing.

Research Ethics and Quality Assurance

• Ensure appropriate research ethics, informed consent, safeguarding, source protection and data-security standards.
• Manage risks associated with sensitive sources and vulnerable participants.
• Maintain rigorous separation between source access and evidentiary conclusions.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or higher in Conflict and Security Studies, Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Data Science, Geography, Sociology, Peace and Conflict Studies, or another relevant research-intensive discipline.
• PhD is an advantage but not mandatory.
• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience in conflict/security research, political violence, conflict data, humanitarian research, organised crime, field research, quantitative/mixed-method research, geospatial/network analysis or research consultancy.
• Strong knowledge of Nigerian and West African security dynamics is essential.
• Experience with the Lake Chad Basin or Sahel is an advantage.
• Experience managing research teams, commissioned research, proposals or institutional clients is highly valuable.

Languages: Professional English is required. French, Hausa, Kanuri, Fulfulde or Arabic are significant advantages.
