Save the Children is inviting suitable applicants to apply for volunteer positions as ABEP Learning Facilitators under its EU-supported programme.

ABOUT THE ROLE

ABEP Learning Facilitators will work with the project team to provide quality teaching and effective classroom management at designated Alternative Basic Education Programme ABEP learning centres.

The successful volunteers will support learners to understand their subjects, maintain appropriate records and contribute to creating a safe, inclusive and child-friendly learning environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Support and guide learners to understand the subjects being taught.
2. Deliver lessons in line with the ABEP curriculum.
3. Keep accurate records of learners’ performance.
4. Record learners’ attendance during every contact day.
5. Support the identification and enrolment of target children within the community for the ABEP programme.
6. Support back-to-school campaigns and community awareness activities.
7. Support the mobilization of communities and work closely with School-Based Management Committees SBMCs and Community Coalitions CCs.
8. Provide accessible and protective education services at the ABEP learning centre.
9. Ensure targeted children and adolescent boys and girls within the ABEP age range have access to relevant and quality basic education opportunities.
10. Keep all learner documentation accurate, updated and secure.
11. Compile learner information accurately and on time to support assessment of progress against activities and expected outcomes.
12. Compile and report learner data as required.
13. Maintain a safe, friendly and supportive atmosphere within the learning centre.
14. Promote the inclusion of all children, regardless of gender or ability, in learning activities.
15. Ensure teaching and learning materials, equipment and play materials are properly used, inventoried and safely stored.
16. Report progress, challenges and relevant issues to the project team.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should:

1. Be above 18 years of age.
2. Have a minimum of NCE.
3. Be a resident of the LGA where they will work.
4. Have knowledge of community mobilization processes.
5. Be able to read and write in English.
6. Be able to speak the local language of the area where they wish to work.
7. Have good communication and interpersonal skills.
8. Be a respected and accepted member of the local community.
9. Have no record of child abuse.
10. Have a valid government-issued identification card.
11. Nomination and endorsement by the LGA or community will be an added advantage.
