ABOUT THE ROLE
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is seeking an experienced Protection Coordinator to provide technical coordination, advisory, fundraising, advocacy, and representation support for its protection programming in Nigeria.
The position will be based at the DRC Country Office in Abuja, with frequent travel to Area Offices and field locations in Borno, Sokoto and Zamfara States, as well as other locations as DRC’s geographical presence develops.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical advice to implementation and Country Office teams throughout programme implementation.
- Lead the development and rollout of DRC Nigeria’s Protection technical strategy.
- Provide technical inputs and reviews for proposals, reports, assessments and evaluations.
- Build the technical capacity of implementation teams and partners.
- Develop and review SOPs, guidelines, technical papers, learning products and good-practice materials.
- Guide teams in reviewing protection incident reports, alerts and protection monitoring products.
- Conduct and support Protection sector capacity gap assessments with government and other stakeholders.
- Analyse Protection sector challenges, trends, programmes and projects, with a focus on protection outcomes.
- Represent DRC in relevant clusters, working groups and technical bodies.
- Engage NGOs, donors, government institutions and other stakeholders.
- Support fundraising by identifying funding opportunities, partnerships and strategic opportunities.
- Develop advocacy materials to promote protection awareness, partnerships and fundraising.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- At least 5 years of experience working in the protection field, including at least 3 years at a senior technical level.
- Proven experience in proposal and report writing.
- Experience drafting and reviewing technical SOPs, guidelines, technical papers and analysis.
- Experience representing organisations in clusters, working groups and technical bodies.
- Proven stakeholder engagement and advocacy experience.
- Experience across relevant protection sectors.
- In-depth experience in Protection Monitoring, case management, PSS, legal assistance, GBV and protection advocacy is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of current protection sector best practices and humanitarian architecture.
- Full professional proficiency in English with excellent written communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in International Law, International Relations, Political Science, Social Work, Humanitarian Assistance, Sociology, Psychology or another relevant field.
ADDED ADVANTAGE
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Experience in capacity building for national partners.
- Prior knowledge of the Nigerian context.
- Fluency in French.
KEY SKILLS

CONTRACT DETAILS
Contract Length: 1 Year
Band: G1 – Non-Management
DRC notes that there is a strong possibility the role may transition to F1 – Manager in the coming months once anticipated funding is confirmed.
Duty Station: Abuja Country Office
