About the Fellowship

The GROW Fellowship is designed to strengthen the leadership pipeline of African women professionals in plant and livestock breeding. This initiative aims to build more gender-responsive crop improvement systems by empowering women to lead impactful research and influence scientific and policy agendas across the continent.

This immersive, non-residential program focuses on enhancing leadership, visibility, and career advancement for women breeders working in agricultural research and development.

Who Should Apply? (Qualifications & Eligibility)

Applications are open to women professionals who:

  • Are citizens of any African country
  • Hold at least a Master’s degree in plant or livestock breeding
  • Have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in crop or livestock improvement research
  • Are actively engaged in breeding research and development
  • Are affiliated with:
    • Universities
    • National Agricultural Research Systems (NARES)
    • Private sector organizations
    • Other institutions involved in crop improvement
  • Are available and committed to participating fully in the two-year Fellowship program
  • Are not currently participating in any AWARD Fellowship

Fellowship Activities

Selected fellows will participate in:

  • Leadership and negotiation skills training
  • A structured mentoring program
  • Knowledge-sharing forums and networking opportunities
  • Peer learning sessions within a growing network of women professionals
