Background
- The Education in Emergencies Working Group (EiEWG) is the national coordination forum for education actors responding to humanitarian emergencies in Nigeria. Co-led by UNICEF and Save the Children International, the EiEWG supports effective, timely, and coordinated education responses in line with global EiE standards and national priorities.
- As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen localisation in line with localisation commitments under the Grand Bargain and ECW requirements, national ownership, and accountability within coordination structures, the EiEWG Information Management (IM) function is hosted by a national organisation, Gender Equality Peace and Development Center (GEPaDC) to strengthen national leadership, sustainability, and accountability.
- The Information Management Officer (IMO) will provide technical IM support to the EiEWG Secretariat, partners, and stakeholders at national and sub-national levels.
Responsibilities
- The Information Management Officer will be responsible for managing, analysing, and disseminating education-related humanitarian data to support evidence-based decision-making, coordination, advocacy, and reporting for the Education in Emergencies Working Group (EiEWG) in Nigeria.
- Effective sector coordination depends not only on strong leadership and coordination capacity, but also on robust and reliable information management, which is a core accountability of the sector lead agency. High-quality information management underpins coordination processes by ensuring that all relevant actors work from consistent, complementary, and reliable data and baselines when making decisions.
- In humanitarian contexts, well-collected and properly managed data also supports early recovery, longer-term recovery, and disaster preparedness efforts. Information management is therefore a time-critical function that enables timely, evidence-based decision-making across the sector.
- The purpose of this position is to lead the systematic collection, analysis, and dissemination of education data, ensuring that EiEWG partners have access to accurate and timely information to inform strategic and operational decision-making.
- The Information Management Specialist is responsible for maintaining the sector information management systems, supporting the development of key sector frameworks including the Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO) and the Humanitarian Response Plan (HPR). Additionally, the IMO will be involved in the development of essential information management tools, products and the coordination of various reporting systems within the sector; other key tasks include
Required Qualification and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Management, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field. Formal IM or humanitarian coordination training is an asset.
- Experience: 2–3 years’ experience in humanitarian IM, preferably within cluster/sector coordination. Experience supporting HNO/HRP and ECW processes is highly desirable.
