ABOUT LAFIYA
Lafiya is a fast-growing nonprofit working to make contraception accessible to women who need it across underserved communities. Through its network of female health professionals known as Lafiya Sisters, the organisation provides family planning information and contraceptive services directly to communities.
JOB SUMMARY
Lafiya is seeking a Data Engineer to build and maintain data pipelines and infrastructure that transform data from multiple sources into reliable, analysis-ready information. The successful candidate will work closely with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) team to support data modelling, reporting, dashboards, and evidence-based decision-making.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Build and maintain ETL pipelines that integrate data from SurveyCTO, Airtable, and other sources.
Design database schemas and develop data models for analysis and reporting.
Support the MEL team in developing and improving dashboards and analytical queries.
Ensure data accuracy through deduplication, reconciliation, incremental loading, and quality checks.
Manage PostgreSQL database users, access permissions, backups, connectivity, and performance.
Maintain version-controlled, reproducible code and infrastructure.
Implement appropriate data governance, privacy, and security controls to protect sensitive beneficiary information.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical or quantitative discipline is strongly preferred.
Approximately 3–6 years of hands-on experience in data engineering or a closely related role.
Proven experience building and operating production data pipelines end to end.
Strong SQL skills, preferably PostgreSQL, and proficiency in Python for data engineering.
Experience in relational database design, data modelling, ETL processes, incremental loading, upserts, deduplication, and data reconciliation.
Experience with managed cloud databases such as Google Cloud SQL, AWS RDS, or equivalent.
Working knowledge of cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including Cloud SQL, Cloud Run, Cloud Scheduler, Secret Manager, and IAM.
Knowledge of PostgreSQL administration, Git, database security, and performance monitoring.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently with technical and non-technical colleagues.
ADDITIONAL ADVANTAGES

RECRUITMENT PROCESS
Stage 1: Application form and a 40-minute multiple-choice assessment.
Stage 2: A practical test task lasting approximately 2–3 hours.
