Applications are now open for the Kofi Annan NextGen Democracy Prize 2026, an प्रतिष्ठigious award recognising outstanding young leaders who are actively advancing, defending, and promoting democracy in their communities and beyond.
The prize is designed to celebrate exceptional leadership demonstrated by young activists committed to strengthening democratic values, encouraging civic participation, and driving meaningful societal change. It offers a unique platform for emerging leaders to gain global recognition and further amplify their impact.
The selected winner will receive a comprehensive package that includes a fully funded opportunity to attend the Athens Democracy Forum, scheduled to take place in Athens, Greece, from 29 September to 2 October 2026. In addition, the winner will be awarded a cash prize of 10,000 USD and will benefit from a one-year mentorship programme with a recognised expert in democracy and governance.
Beyond the grand prize, the competition also recognises nine additional finalists. Both the winner and finalists will have the opportunity to participate in two prestigious global events: the Athens Democracy Forum and the One Young World Summit, which will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, from 3 to 6 November 2026. These platforms provide invaluable opportunities to connect with global leaders, exchange ideas, and collaborate on solutions to pressing democratic challenges.
