A PRACTICAL YOUTH FELLOWSHIP IN LEGISLATIVE PROCESSES AND CIVIC INFORMATION
The South-West Legislative Fellowship is a practical youth fellowship designed to strengthen young people’s understanding of state-level legislative processes and improve their ability to make legislative information more accessible and understandable to citizens.
FELLOWSHIP EXPERIENCE
Selected fellows will be embedded within their respective State Houses of Assembly throughout the fellowship.
Fellows will work closely with Assembly Clerks and relevant legislative staff while gaining practical exposure to legislative processes and the day-to-day workings of state-level institutions.
KEY ACTIVITIES
Selected fellows will be expected to:
- Engage with State House of Assembly officials and relevant legislative staff.
- Identify and flag gaps in available legislative data and information.
- Conduct research on relevant legislative issues and processes.
- Produce accessible civic briefs for citizens.
- Develop clear and easy-to-understand legislative summaries.
- Contribute to making legislative information more accessible to members of the public.
- Gain practical understanding of how state-level legislative institutions operate.
WHY APPLY
The fellowship provides an opportunity for young people interested in governance, public policy, legislative affairs, civic engagement, research and public communication to gain practical experience within a State House of Assembly.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with legislative staff and develop practical skills in research, information analysis, civic communication and legislative documentation.
SOUTH-WEST FOCUS
The fellowship is designed for the South-West region, with selected fellows embedded within their respective State Houses of Assembly.
